how to shave weight on rocks????

rcvs are junk and i'm really not looking to spend the money for all of ouversons stuff(i would love to have it but??)
probably going to have my buddy build me a set

Ok, Heath and I were talking...

Someone who has weighed a steering 14 please post up how much those rascals weigh

They've gotta be a fair bit heavier than a 60.....

BUMP FOR TECH...

If your scared about weight add more hp! It'll get ya to the top or you'll be stuck tryin to put all the pieces back together!

Here is a picture of the Housings Heath is doing for my Flatty.... I can't wait to HAMMER on them!!!! hitit

Does it use two short shafts? Looked cool how much less does it weight than a stock housing?

Yea I'm running two short shafts and with my wheels and tires I'll be 89" wide outside to outside

Heath has the weight report, I'm about the added CLEARANCE!!!

the first houseing was roughly 40lbs less than stock, I hope the next one is closer to 45, I can do a better job on the center section and make it a little smaller. I know some have drilled the inner cs, but I just can convince myself to go light in that area. I hope that by the time im done with the third. and the hubs, to be within 20/30lbs of a stock d 60 front.

Heath and I were talking and instead of a new thread I thought I'd post the question here-

Has ANYONE ran the rig on a chassis Dyno to see actually how much wheel HP they have?? I know many people on here use the ole "grocery list of parts dyno" or the "seat of the pants" compared to somenone elses, BUT I mean real world results. tIt seems to me that a Chassis dyno would offer a better overall "Tune" for the engine. I plan to put my setup on a chassis dyno for tuning.

anyway, I'd love to hear the 500 Pony and up crew chime in!!!! I venture to guess we lose at LEAST a 100-125 ponies through use of 4 wheel drive and I'm just curious what the results will show... I know I will lose more with Rocks instead of tons. but I'll wheel ALL weekend long with ROCKS
booyang

Even better, dyno the engine on a stand and then on a chassis dyno. My bet would be 25% loss based on 10 to 15% loss which is pretty common for a 2wd car.

I agree, one of my good friends has a race shop. He said a engine done on the Dyno and then the car on a chassis Dyno is approx. 22% loss in power. That was just his expierence. I'd bet it DOUBLES with the tcase and an extra axle pulling

Let's see somebody...

I'm sure every setup is different, but I believe on pirate a couple of months they were saying 45 percent loss

A friend of mine weighed his built D60, 676lb. A de-braked Rockwell weighs 690lb so with Ouverson brake 700lb.

May be a dumb question, but ill ask anyway for education purposes. How is it that a de-braked front rockwell weighs the same as a de-braked rear rockwell? Seems like the front steering setup would make it weigh more then just a straight axle.

Let the education begin....

Here is a quote from Steve Gerstner (Differential Engineering)

"I am listing this info. for future use. These weights were done with an electronic scale. 2 1/2 ton front, 100% complete stock, 842 lbs., narrowed front with no brakes 662 lbs. The rear 100% stock 692 lbs. and with the brakes removed, 532 lbs. Two drums and two backing plates with all of there parts is 160 lbs. steve differential eng. inc."

Let me see now, I've got to come up with a different excuse now why my rig don't o as good as some. I've been using the one" my axles make me real heavy" . Now what can I say? I know, " I don't have my glasses on"!

I with you on this one Hal, but I know my POS weights in at over 6500lbs :****: with the tires and rims I have now. It don't go half the places I would like it to without hanging on a winch cable but I can get it whereever I need it to go.
