I was looking at doing steering 14's, but found 70's instead that have the diffs already sealed for fronts, I lucked out

And if you ever have issues with the 29 spline pinion, you can do the JANA 87 kit rather than having to build all new axles.

Call Rocksolid in mind. They were all standing there when they were weighed.none of us could believe it. Check out cross eyed customs build thread.that's the buggy and axles.

I saw the axles in that thread,

only info was "eorp" built the knuckles/C's and it looks like a ProRock 80 center section?

What size shafts? what spindles? brakes? etc.

The gear teeth may hold up better, but it doesn't matter when you are twisting off pinion shafts.

First of all i agree that for 99% of us the 14 in the front is bombproof,, also heavy and probably unnec.

but for the big 500 hp launching 20' in the air big dogs what good is a unbreakable pinion if the teeth break because of the shitty angle and low pinion!

Bobby's new 14 bolt seems to be holding up fine

Just remember when you build bullet proof axles, the Atlas becomes the weak link. Might as well make sure you can fit a straight drive case in their also.

Dang you sure are getting some mileage out of the "engineering" jabs, not sure what brought that on... ::)

The Dana 70U "can't" be 87'd,

but the 70HD is pretty "simple" (because it's basically an 80 internally) and the standard 70 can be with some machine work in the case (pinion bearing change), from what I understand from my discussions with Jantz about my rear 70.

Mine is a 70B (the "standard" old 70).

I was just speaking in generalities, and "most" 70s have the potential to be modified to run an 80 ring gear.

Wonder what application the axles that drich found came from... A lot of ditch witches, off road man lifts, and small telehandlers used Dana center sections. I bet most of them had interal seals. Or from an automotive D70 front. Either way, I kinda doubt they are 70U centers.

They use dodge outters with drive slugs, ill keep them, found all the hard wear to add the brakes to them too, just waiting to be retubed

:dblthumb: They got the BIG inner C's too

What style centers are they? (B/U/HD)?

Re: Re: 14 Bolt or Dana 80

not saying this is the way to go but this is what i did. pro rock 80 ,alum hubs, billet spindles ,billet spool (rock solid) rcv 47 shafts 619 lbs . I am running low max 205 with billet covers. i am hopping that my driveshafts are the weak link, spares in the truck.

Badass. Those knuckles are huge. the aluminum hubs and lightweight brakes are a big weight saver for sure.

What kind of bearings/bushings/etc were used for pivots for the knuckle?

I'd like to do something similar but low-buck with an 80 center and 05+ Ford Super Duty 60 outers. (probably wouldn't hold up to crazy airborne assaults, but it wouldn't break shafts or ring gears)

thanks, the knuckles use brass bushingsand 2'' king pins . i used a 05 /newer 80 for the rear. I think what u are going to build would be super strong ,plus light using the unit bearing
