If you had 15,000 to spend in parts for a buggy and thats all, how would you spend it.
Gotta have a V8 and coilovers.

Ive got less than that and I think Im doing pretty well.

With the extra having 15 would give me, I would be real serious into axle parts ( solid knuckles, CTM's any and every upgrade over stock I could fathom ) Mine will get that stuff eventually... I gotta see it thorugh and rollin first though.

Big Ends , Big Motor , Big Axles and build around with what you have left over $$ wise laughing

LS1 3-4K set up with pump, harnesses, etc.
solid tranny, talking anywhere from 500-1k
tcase, stak or atlas, 2k
hp60 front 1k
all the stuff to make it strong enough, 2k
14 rear, do it on the cheap 250
c/o's, 2k
driveshafts (me, I make mine, so 100 for both. if you buy elsewhere,) 500
all the little **** that eats a buggy build alive in the last month of the build, your money is long ass gone.

sub in a 350/205 to save
5.3 saves you
put together your own steering for 200 saves some

15k won't get you very far if you have to CC up and buy the **** outright at the beginning. Paul's old rig being a piece by piece collection point for parts that are neccessary for a buggy. you'll easily have 20k in it before labor if you go with all bling stuff like in my list at the top.

well.....I have a nice 5.3 already, trans, 60s, 2 coilovers, the seats, fuel cell, winch, tires, wheels, hydro steering,......so damn, 15K would net me a pretty sweet setup!

my current rig is just a collection point for a buggy build in a few years.

Gotta have a V8 and coilovers.

$3000 - Jimmy's 4x4 chassis
$1000 - 5.3 Vortec
$1000 - Misc motor stuff (wiring, programming, headers)
$1300 - TH350/adapter
$1700 - Used Atlas 3.8
$1500 - Radflo Coilovers
$1000 - drivelines
$1000 - link material and rod ends
$3000 - Junkyard D60 with alloy axles and a spool
$700 - Power steering (Orbital, Ram, Res)
$300 - Corbeau seats

That is $15,500

Still needs wheels and tires and a rear axle and a TON of small ****.

$2500 - rear axle (BB 9" housing, Moser 3rd and SF 35 spline axles)
$1500 - tires
$1500 - AL beadlocks
$500 - AL radiator

DAMN! $15000 does not go too far does it????

Look at Pirate, there is a buggyish thing with all of the above for $15,000.....looks like a steal, just need to transfer it all over to a nice chassis.

man...you guys need to check around on some pricing.....
I have about 1400 bux in my motor, harness, ecm, ecm programming, LS6 cam/springs, heads milled, new alt, and belt...
I also used a Howe radiator, it is a dual pass and it runs about 270.

granted, you can spend or save money alot of places....but I dont think I would skimp out on much on a buggy build....

15K will get you nice list of parts, but no where near finished.

Why the question, watcha got?
Was thinking if I could sell my jeep, what I would do.
I was just curious I didn't think it could be done with 15k. I figured 15k for parts and 15k for labor because there is know way I could build it myself. Guess thats why they say its easier to buy it already built.
The little things kill you, I just learned a very expensive lesson with my new motor. Spent way way more money than I thought I was going to.

This sport is worse than drugs.

I hear ya. When I pay my bills, I don't see $ going to pay my bills. I see parts I could have bought. Cell phone bill, could of been a seat. House payment, set of longfields.

There is no doubt about this one. Finding one that is not flogged to death is hard, but there is no way to get much of anything for $15k unless you can do all of the labor yourself.

You should really look hard at that Jimmy's buggy in the FS section. I am telling you, that thing is fawking tits and you can't touch a new buggy like it for 30K

some people are getting FLOGGED buggies for $30k these days... :flipoff1:...yo NEVER KNOW what you may run across...

i consider myself lucky to have gotten the one that i did for what i paid for it....especially since it is a ONE OFF, and had all the good **** with it already....and i paid less than $15K....by a good bit...

Ill have way less than 15 in mine... prolly closer to 10K . Its not all blingy though :flipoff1:

(hope to get my hood and grille tonight. )

I think everyone here knows my pains with building or buying.

When I was going to build I had mucho time, but no dinero. Then as my free time started to evaporate bacause I was working more and thus making more, I started to look into buying. I started looking over 2 years ago and there was a few but far between in the $15k range rigs that went. (a couple off the top of my head were the two that 1cdud sold out of KC). The longer it went, the more money I was able to save, but also the price of these rigs all started to shoot up.
Also in that time period there was a paradigm shift to buggies.
I had set a limit for myself way back when of $15k when I first started looking, then ratcheted it up to $20k just before I found the one I ended up buying which was above my limit but was worth the stretch.

Looking at my rig, parts alone get you way the fawk up there. And looking at it today, I've owned it for a few months, and I could flip it and probably put a GOOD chunk of coin in my pocket.

You just have to weigh your time vs. dollars. If it were 5 years ago for me, I would have only had one option: to build.

15k can get you a damn longways in parts to having a super badass rig, the caveat is you have to do all of the labor to put those parts together. And at that point two things come into play time (already been said) and skills.

I still think a 15k rig is way doable, then upgrade parts as the dollars become available.

That buggy for sale in Albu on Pirate for 15,000 is a deal. Not to pretty, but the parts alone are worth it.

Hell 10K can get you Rocktoy's rig. Just needs more axle. I know nickle and dime ****. lol

Whats the Albuqueque rig Nolen's talking about?
I agree Jay's rig is very nice, and in damn good shape. For the purchase, then $'s to ship you could still 1ton it for under 15k.
