I have an '89 yota 4x4 manuel 3slo and it's getting closer to dying. I want to put a 4.3 Chevy vortec v6 in. I'm gonna build(rebuild) the 4.3 before the 3.0 dies so the swap is ready.

I know for sure there are engine mount brackets I have to get but am unsure about if I need a new tranny or if I get engine tranny package how will the transfer box match up.

Has anyone done the swap or know a good detailed thread about it.

And does anyone know a shop in the Seattle area the can put the engine and new wiring harness in and then hook it all together?

Thanks Jeff

I have an advance adapter that runs the Chevy th350 to Toyota cases can't get the link to copy over on my phone but if you go to the garage section and read Chris's toy which is my truck it will give you a good jumping off point

What tranny do you want to use? I'm doing a 4.3 swap right now and I have a th350 to toy case adapter. It's from AA. I'm running the stock TBI with a stripped down wiring harness. If you can rebuild an engine you should be able to put it in. It would be cheaper for you to buy an aftermarket harness than to pay a shop to do it. Pirate would have a lot of threads about this

Keep it toyota. Swap a 3.4 instead of a heavy ass junker 4.3 that will bend axle housings and EAT fuel.

Ask Chad why he dont wheel his 4.3 truck anymore.

You can do a 3.4 toyota V6 swap into a rig with a 3.0 in a weekend and your stock V6 trans will bolt right up to it.

I don't wheel mine cuz I'm ignorant with the throttle and the 4.3 breaks all the toyota parts! I would have the same issue w/ a 3.4........ :redneck:

Hell I can't even keep a 22re rig together.

Yeah the 3.4 is heavier, good try though. Swap wise 3.4 is way easier. 4.3's are easy to get into, 3.4's are expensive. I guess you were right they probably do have better gas mileage though.

only way id want a 3.4 is a gm 3.4 ... but at that point 4.3 stuffs cheeper and more redaly available..

Another nice aspect of the 4.3 is they have more low end grunt, simpler to work on(repair) and parts can be found anyplace local for cheap.

Also if you are swapping from a 4cly you have to swap the tranny out anyways.

Easy stuff, doing one right now 2000 4.3 in a 94 runner. Time consuming and dont buy anything off the shelf except a bellhousing or transfercase adapter if you go that route. anything else sucks and you will end up making your own once you see how crappy they are.

How much H.P. does the 4.3 have? They are probably easier to work on but on the other hand I don't have to work on mine. Just turn the key and go. My swap was about $1500 and everything just bolts right up. Pretty much zero fab work.

My swap is running about $350 but I do have to buy a new oil filter and air cleaner. Price will depend a lot on what you're starting with and what, if any, adapters you have to buy.

The vortec out of an s10 93-94 vin "w" is the best one. Like 195hp 220ft/lbs ish

The "w" trucks had a better cam and stuff

No--96-up is a better platform 93-45 are a CPI where 96' and up is SCPI. The platform is more complex but a far better motor and injection system.

96 and up had a better injection system an better heads, but also obd2 which adds a ton of computer and sensor stuff to deal with
