Just don't go HP rear, I don't like that about my new rig. It is the only component I don't really like
I was wondering what your thoughts were on that.

My power is not insane, 300hp with a 3200lb rig, so I hope it will be OK. Fingers crossed!

No way i would change that. Maybe pick up some spares for it and beat on it. The Banik boys are beating the hell out of their buggies and they are all running HP D60's.

Just go out and have fun. That rig is gonna be fun. Nice to have something that already has scratches in it. You don't have to go through that first scratch nightmare.

My stock as **** 9 has gave me Zero probs....

But i am running a 4 cyl and 36's :flipoff1:

I have seen a 14B shaft break....but it was in a 900hp gas pullin truck, pullin a sled at full power. he broke and kept truckin a few more feet.
I am in this debate right now, except I am looking a 70 vs 14B. I like the cheap lockers for 14Bs, just dont like the clearance. I would shave the piss out of that bitch and run it. damn, I guess I need to buy that 14b since i just answered my own questions....LOL

I've seen a lot of 14 bolt break on the trail. Shoot, Woodlee broke one in low-life weekend before last on 42s. Anything can break, just some stuff breaks more than others. For example, 9s break more often than 14s. laughing1

Hell Woodlees dad has broken 2 14 bolt shafts in his jeep.

I thought it was another axle the other weekend. Ends up it was the Detroit that let go. I think it was from where we pieced tow broken Detroit's together when the axle shaft broke last time. The side gears get the teeth cleaned off when a shaft breaks so we took two good half's I had and made one. But it must have been stressed because it didn't hold up well for me at all. But that is the first time in 4 years that the cover had been off of the axle. That is good to me.

But a 9' does have it place in a light weight rig fo sho. I talked to every one that would talk to me this weekend that was running one and there are many different stories to what works and what doesnt'

Um, 70 and 14 both have 10.5" ring gears. its which one you want to shave the ring gear more on. they shave out to the same.

If it helps any,Adam likes his 9's alot. What happened this week was one of them freaky thangs. He's running a 5.0 Atlas and to get the final gear he wanted he went with 3.73 gears. As you know this puts all the stress on the drive shafts and that works out good.My radio was dead so I stayed at the starting line so I didn't get to see it.I was told he landed on the right rear and twisted the rear shaft into.He didn't know it and tryed to go again and the back part of the shaft wedged under the lower link and that cracked the third member.Other than that we really like the 9's.Hes going to try to put some ARB's in to loose the Detroit.Rusty is running 5.13 (I think) that is why he keeps breaking R+P.

Rusty is running peice of **** Currie 9+ aluminum 3rd members. They are the weakest 3rds out there. Just look at the casting and the internals.

If he had a Nodular 3rd or a Moser Aluminum 9" he could be running strong.

Which 9" third is Greg (Bigwoody) running now? I've only seen it described as a low pinion third. Is it OEM?

I know he's put it to the test and it doesn't seem to be the weak link anymore.
