Which 9" third is Greg (Bigwoody) running now? I've only seen it described as a low pinion third. Is it OEM?

I know he's put it to the test and it doesn't seem to be the weak link anymore.

He bought the top of the line Strange Nodular 3rd, Moser axles. Obviously it is good, he beats his junk.

My 9" advisor who ran and owned Sunray and also is an ME as well as a drag racer for 40 years has told me time and again, the best for the $$ is Moser.

If you can ever look at them side by side you can see the difference in casting, webing and thickness.

It used to have all the prices on the page ???

When I priced a 40 spline nodular center for my project it was $1300 or so with the spool. The aluminum cases add another hundred or so to the price

Yeah I was quoted $1,400, went back and looked at my papers.

how good are the strange nods? $1055 shipped with 35 spline spool and 1350 billet yoke?

Don't know, but all I have been told is to get Moser stuff because its the best. Guess we will find out if it's Rock Bouncer approved or not.

I think they are fine. I have heard good things about that guy on eBay. He is an old Nascar or car racing guy and he is retired and builds those in his shop now. I think he gets Nascar take offs are something and re-mans them.

Tom at Sunray steered me away from those. He said they were not worth the $200 savings. That is all I know on that.

I'm aware ebay isn't the only place to shop, but its quick. just throwing **** out there.
with a moser nod case, would that be a good one?

I don't think there are any "stock" 35 spline 3rds out there. If you get stock, you will get 31 splines and unless they are downstream of a portal box I would not do 31 spline.

na, I'm going 35 spline spool for the front, you can put that in a big bearing case, right? wow, I just realized how absolutley little to nothing I know about 9's.

Yeah I was the same way. I have asked Nolen a million questions. I am sure he is tired of my questions by now.

okay, so stock or small bearing is 3 1/16" and the big bearings are 3 1/4". do you need the big bearing to run 35 spline reliably? moser is the best, looking like you're going to pay $400ish for a moser 9 big bearing nod third shipped. this is real quick rough numbers. looking at this one more and more makes it more attractive

it is a big bearing 3rd with 4.56 and big bearing support with 1350 yoke. you spend $700 getting it here throw away (resell) the 31 spline spool and a 35 spline spool goes right in. best spool? moser again? strange spools? can you fit 40 spline in the 3.25" bearing case? what dia is 40 spline? I am thinking its aroud 1.75". bigger than a rock shaft, so not of consequence. although, having randy pull his broach through a 35 after being machined out to 16 would make it all very easy. just more **** to think about.

wow, I'm gonna **** this thread up
here is a moser nod 3rd put together by them with up to 40 spline for $1300 shipped.

looks like some coin will have to be dropped to make this happen.
housing is $400+ shipping
call it $500+$1300+$1000 for shafts+$1000 for 14b/rockparts to finish it. you'd have $3800 in a chromo'd out front with 1.62" shafts and joints that haven't been broken. that's with no labor, though. maybe $4K or a little more just in the front. a shaved up ARB'd 14 rear with 2 short sides for narrowing is right at 2K. damn, axles are spensive
