at the end my brakes were sticking - a pad was installed backwards! That's a new one molaugh

I'm scared to test it any before then cause I've missed the first 2 cause of that

After that I'm gonna put it to use as it was intended - to save the toyota!

Updates:

I raced and did great in my mind

With ZERO seat time, I took it slow - WAY slow. even though the pedal was floored sometimes it's not the quickest thing out there.

Damage report - 1 broke link (turned down too much) I have vid of the impact in the wrong spot
Last course I broke the intermediate shaft. It was 1310 stuff and just sheared both ujoints in one motion. I think it's just not big enough and i'm gonna try to get some 1410 junk in there. The branik output shaft held up wonderfully though.

My tranny leaks bad - hope it's just the pan but of course that's gonna be hard to remove and reseal

On the last course we let the winches out a little bit and the suspension settled some too. Like everyone saw it leans bad still
Only time it leans like that in 4wd was when the intermediate shaft has broke, I'm wondering if thats a sign that it's about to go
 
NEW ENGINE THOUGHTS!!!

What do yall think of a Pontiac/Buick 3800 with transaxle?

A supercharged 3800 and transaxle is identical in size/shape but double the HP
I'd have to rework my mounts and maybe some exhaust but I gain a removable/changeable final gear - easy to get to diff for welding too

Other questions I have are:

1. the trans is computer controlled - should I control it manually? It would be nice to start in 2nd for racing, but I'd have to always shift it. would I burn it up?
2. Best way to figure out the output shaft? I've spent alot on the custom stuff already
3. exhaust ports - I won't get as lucky to have them transfer over will I?
4. Anything else that could make the swap from taurus to pontiac hard?
 
AZRockcrawler on PBB put a SC'ed 3800 in his buggy. Unsure what trans he is using, but do know it's a standard trans like a 350, etc. It frickin hauls the mail on one of their BTG videos in the desert. I think it says 105 in high range. thumb.gif
 
Travis, i was diggin on your buggy, yeah it needs more power, but what doesn't.

You need to work on that climb acceleration lean. No ****, you lifted the front left the whole way up those steps on that wall in Hannibal. Kelly and I were with the Branik guys watching and when it lifted they all went "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, WTF????????" That a major problem I'm work out before anything else.
 
so what's the problem?

What I noticed was that it only does that in 4wd right before the output/intermediate driveshaft breaks

It only did it real bad on the last course and BOOM the shaft let go.

I tried to show some other racers what it was doing and I couldn't even get it to do it????

Also before that last race we let the winches out and we think our shocks had settle a few inches causing or links to point upward from chassis to axles.

Now do you know why I was going so slow!! I have no idea what this thing is gonna do
I'm getting ready to put some TJ bumpstops on the airshock shafts because it was bottoming out so hard and I have gotten ZERO support/advice on tuning the shocks since they are kings

Yeah dude, that needs to be worked out. That was some scary **** watching you go up that hill. Dont even think about changing motors until you get your suspension sorted out.

don't know what to do on the suspension
sponsor and king have told me that I can't mess with the oil in the shocks - that's a bunch of BS if you ask me so I'm gonna fill em up with oil
 
tryin to get help over on pirate - got some good guys givin advice, hopefully we can get it worked out
 
rear shocks outboarded

thinkin about doin the front too but I'll loose the "look" that I wanted with the s10 skins
