BB's on the street

i'm putting the heavy weight .2 gram airsoft bb's in my 39.5 iroks. i'll see how they do. but i really haven't heard anything bad about running the bb's only good reviews.

I counted up all the stick on weights on the worst tire. Added a few extra ounces and put them in all 4 tires. I think it was 22-26Oz per tire. I have had great luck with them in my 38.5's

I had BB's in my 34 L.T.B.'s and had no problems did find some rusting after a Year, but now run Air soft Pellets in my tires, seems to be more quiet than the BB's

Im' resurrecting this thread, cus i love it! :fawkdancesmiley:

And because i think it's failed me, or i've failed it, I put in 6oz of airsoft pellets in my 32x11.5x15 BFG's and they wobble like a SOB! :booo: I know i'm 2 ounces short of the reccomended amount, but damn! It's awful!.

Just venting... BB's don't like BFG's. :fawkdancesmiley::haha:

Although they work perfect in 36 Iroks and 39.5 Iroks at 70mph+. :eeek:

I might add more this coming weekend and see if it cures it. :corn:

well since truckers invented this system of balancing for retreads way back in the day cause retreads are very hard to balance id suspect the tires themselves?

i have some ol school BFGs on my hotrod mustang and those tire have come apart inside before...

have you looked inside for any seperation or flat spots on the tires?

im certain its not the BBs issue as they work. unless you might need 2 oz more the chart was developed for a reason.

curious to find out?

Ya, i'm not sure, i got two new...er tires recently and thought it was them, so i swapped them to the back and the original tires i had up front and theyre doing the same thing, i suspect it's not enought BB's, because they ran fairly smooth with convential balancing on the "other" wheels i had them on. :eeek: I'm gonna try maybe 4oz more in the front two tires and see if it helps... Cus it's a considerable shake.

To give a little back story, i had less shake a while ago when i mounted the tires with bb's, i thought it might be the loose rack and pinion guide and a loose TRE, well I replaced the TRE and upgraded the rack guide on sunday, drove it to toyotanut's house and it shook worse! :haha: It transfered all the shimmy and shake up thru the steering wheel, the steering is super tight now and feels awesome under 35mph, any more and it just shakes like a belly dancer.

Experimenting will commence soon. :redneck:

i run air soft pellets in mine, use the innovative balancing chart..

works good as long as your tires aren't fawked.
also, remember if htey are biased, it takes a couple miles befor they warm up and become "round" again..

I used the balance chart but had 2oz less in each tire (didnt buy a 3rd box of pellets, normally 2 is enough ) I just cant imagine that 2oz is a deal breaker, but i am def. going to try maybe 4oz. more, just to see.

Hopefully the tires aren't messed up, they rode fine on the other wheels when they were balanced with regular wheel weights. :eeek:

The real solution to this problem is 35" MTR Kevlar's... :D

Do you have wheel spacers? I know someone who did all kinds of messing around with his wheels thinking they weren't balanced or had bad spots only to find out his spacers were the issue.

I just installed AllPro spacers when i was messing around with stuff... :eeek:

I can drive my rig 55mph down the road.

thats with 38's and DIY beadlocks (tsl/sx)

I would pull them off and I bet the death wobble goes away. :awesomework:

I bet it would too, cus i wouldn't have wheels on the truck! :redneck:

I need the spacers for the wheels to clear the brake caliper, its because the tacoma apparently needs special offset wheels vs. the standard black crawler wheels i got. So unless i go back to the old wheels.... they have to stay on there, plus, if spacers are the problem, why are my friend's AllPro spacers not shaking, and the thousands of others that run spacers as well... :eeek:

I've ran spacers on two other occasions thru the life of my old truck and never had a shaking issue caused by them. I sure hope it's not the spacers after the trouble i had to go thru and the smashed finger. :haha:

I know its a pain but I would pull them and put them back on. It has been an issue with the FJ's too. I think it is the hub centric design. Did it shake before you installed the spacers?

It had a little wobble, maybe because i hadnt fixed the TRE or rack guide yet, but not as much wobble as now though. I had heard some of these newer trucks were hub-centric, not sure if mine is or not (96 taco), but it didnt seem like there was much room between the "hub" and the spacer, but probably still enough to make it shake.:eeek:

I'm gonna try the added BB's first, one thing at a time. Or just SAS it. :redneck:

I've had several different tires on my rig, and the Iroks (36" bias) gave me the death wobble, I've tried everything, tow in, tow out, changed my castor, everything, the BB's worked till I hit a pothole, then I'd have to pull over, come to a stop and then start again, I finally removed the BB's from the front and got them balanced, it helped, but didn't get rid of it all together.

Wow, cus my Iroks (bias also) ran perfect with BB's, two sets of 36's and a set of 39.5's. The worst tire i ran was a 38 TSL for about a week, had them try to balance them twice and they still wobbled like crazy.

Are those the original bfg's from when you bought it? I seem to recall balance issues with at least 1 of the tires. I just rotated it 90 degrees and was able to balance it with lead. It never was absolutely perfect but close enough. They were cupping a bit IIRC.

They are the originals, I tore a hole in the sidewall of one, bought two newer ones and cycled them into the mix and put them on black crawler wheels, I had the wobble once I got my new spacers on. I was running the originals on the back and the newer ones up front, so I swapped the tires front to back and still had a shake. I def need an alignment, but think some more balancing is needed before I do that. They were cupping a little, but not major, I got rid of the two lowest tread tires. I haven't had time to add more BBs for another test run.:looser:
