Breaking Birfields every wheelin trip!! Need help!!

Knowing when to let off is what kept my **** alive for so long. CroMo 27 spline birfs and stock inners were in there for 4 years. Busted one inner but it was one of those deals where I KNEW it was going to break but I didn't think I had a choice at the time. hell that busted inner was on 38.5's, never had a single hiccup with 42" tsl's go figure.

I ran a very good portion of the hammers on a dana 44 on 38 1/2 sx's. My belief there is more to it than hammer down--- you gotta understand how your rig rigs--what causes what an what to expect.

No doubt. My oversized mud bogger needs alot of gas to get up crap.

the feel of things is soooo true.

I've been able to keep my 44 alloys together for 2 years now with 36's heavy ass bead locks and a 5K lb rig. 4:1's in the tcase.
there are times when you say to yourself.. thats enough or, nope not going to do that becasue it will end in a busted axle.

I totally know what your saying I wheeled Reiter, Elbe, and Evans Creek all summer on the birfs that came with my rig and now all of a sudden i can't keep them together since I have been wheelin with guys better then me! I'm just now getting comfortable with my rig and now I break it everytime.....damit!!

I wheeled five years with the 27's and beat the shiat outa my rig at full turn and all, I finally broke one, and it was only because the nuts on my hub had loosened up. You will be fine with these:awesomework: Besides, it's worth it just to wheel one more weekend at reiter:beer:

Comfortable---I think its more competitive than anything. When you get comfortable with your rig you should also understand it and its limitations.

I'm runnin 30 splines and beat on it pretty hard... also have been thru my fair share of sock and ringed birfs......eventually I learned its easier and less expensive to pull rope and winch vs blow **** up :eeek:

If you never want to break another axle: and want to stay with toyota:

1) Bobby Long 27/30 spline chromo's / or equivalent

2) THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT; Steering stops must be reinforced. Make sure you don't hyper extend the chromos. That be weather it's 27 spline or 30's. I broke three 30 splines because of smeared steering stops.

3) Wheel the **** out of it:awesomework:

Ok now that I think about it your 100% correct!!! I'm right now pushing my rig to far and breaking and thats part of figuaring out it's limits:awesomework:

I prefer to wheel all day than break my rig and have to work on it on the trail. I get to spend my time fixing others instead :haha::haha:

I think he ahd the older 30's that you could over steer......the new ones you can't from what i understood. but i'm no expert......just a fly on the wall...LOL!!:corn:

I don't agree. The 30 spliners are able to turn what---40 degrees? With a stock toy housing you are only able to get like 37-38 before you start to smear the swiper assy for the ball.

Bob just traded me out a pair of "first gen 30s" with the smaller star for the new ones. I live about ten minutes from bob and am pretty familar with his axles.

The housing they were in has had the felt seals smashed in and the stops turned in. The knuckle in stock form is not capable of binding the 30s.

Its on pirate if you dont believe me.
