breaking toyota hub studs...

that's right, you were wheeling Reiter before I was born....

I'm sure you've refered to 5 year's ago as back in the day too, remember 5 year's in my life span is 20 in your's:flipoff:

So what now your saying that your a dog:eeek: no wait thats 7 years

ARP studs and add two more pins. No more issues. And as jobless said the main reason for them breaking is they are coming loose. Its the same thing when people shear off knuckle studs. They come loose before they shear off. I check mine every time before I go.
Its a Toyota thing.

I just drilled mine out to 12x1.25 studs with just stock pins and have never broke them even with 44 Tsls. O ya and the driver side was lose for the last year I was just to lazy to fix :redneck:

i am going to use some 3/8 grade 8 bolts instead.... i no they were tights i check them before every trip, aswell as every other nut/bolt. thanks for the info

Most of the dudes I know got feed up and just use 3/8 bolts. Make sure to use grade 5 bolts. The grade 8 bolts are to brittle and will brake when shock loaded.

What to do, what to do:scratchhead:
I just sheared off all the studs and pins for the third time. I gotta do somethin different. Did a search on pirate and on here and didnt come up with much. :booo:

Whats the best fix to this that works? Theres four different things people did above i just dont know what one to do. Tired of goin home early because of broken hub studs....:booo:

those studs are very strong. I think going to 3/8 bolts is a bad idea

the cone wsher setup is hrd to beat if tight, if loose the cone quickly becomes a cutting tool.

For the folks that claim they were tight how do you know? did you hop out and checkthem a minute before they broke off?

The problem is people reef them down tight and think there OK. After tapping the side of the hub to pop the cones loose it leaves a dimple in the side of the tapered hole. When tightening it down it smoooshes the dimple back out, but not all the way. After the first run they will seat back in more and become loose, once tightened a second time they seem to stay for a awile. Then just check them every run just to be sure. Any time you walk by your frontend, take a quick glance at your hub studs and make sure they all have the same amount of threads showing.

I forgot all about 3/8 bolts for hubs. THEY SUCK ASS.

I had bolt on "Big 44 hubs" on my chevy back in the day

they had 3/8 bolts and always broke them with an open diff.:booo: redrilled the rotor three times and finally ran out of room to drill more holes.

bored them out to 1/2 inch studs and was fine. Cant do that on a toyota though, not enough room/meat.

Hm
sounds like the only people that break studs and have problems are the ones that don't do maintance
It takes an hour of your time to check things and 3 hours to fix it

Longfield carries the 6 pin drive flanges

I check them every time I come back and use to find them loose and now they must be tight cuz they don't even budge
preventative maintance might be your friend

Who are you to say i dont do maintance?? I wheel once or twice a week and check over my truck all the time, at least every week. And i like to be able to unlock my hubs so the drive flanges wouldnt work for me.

CHOP SHOP, So you think i should just do some ARP studs and maybe 2 or 4 more alignment pins?

Do the studs and keep the cones. Do 4 pins if you drive hard.

Go to the wrecking yard and take a socket and ratchet and find an IFS truck. Then crank on a IFS hub stud and see just what it takes to snap one off. It will surprise you.:awesomework:

i used to break my knuckle studs all the time, and i woulod check them constantly, even thru out the day. they would need tightened. i then went with tg magnum studs, torqued, and loctited never come loose.
now im breaking my hub studs. i constantly check them also. tighten them in the middle of trails also. so im going to upgrade these next.
i beleive that once they have come loose they stretch or somethin because they will never stay tight after they loosen once!

This is the #1 problem Check the damn things everytime before you go! I check mine everytime and have never had a problem.
hmmm...i never check mine, and ive never had a problem....
i never once found them loose either. and ive had that frontend apart many times.

My FROR ARP held up to everything I threw at them. Broke a few of Bobby's hub gears, but the studs held up great running the front tires half full of water.

never loosened up.

Ya never check them and you will be the along side the trail one day wondering why did my hub studs break?:looser:

i await the day:redneck:

seriously tho, ive never found them to be loose. and like i said, ive tore the thing down many times.

if theyre torque down properly, they wont come loose.
