Building a set of rockwell for my ol smith buggie

The rear steer in the jeep is 12 volt electric over hydraulic, I tossed it together on the cheap with parts I had and could buy cheap....northern hydraulics ram and log splitter valve, and the pump is just one I had laying around, I put a main on off switch on it, I have about 300$ into it and its worked for years that way as a trail rig but it draws a lot of juice and is kinda slow, I would like to add a second power steering pump but initially when I built it ,I liked the idea of two totally different systems in case of failure on the trail... The Toyota truggy is basically the same system with a better electric over hydaulic pump, they both seem to work great but they arnt fast , if I rear steer the buggy I will have two power steering pumps and a better valve for increased speed....both ways seem to work good, just preference , budget and what ya use the rig for

Axles finished and ready to go under the buggy for mock up then a little tube cuttin and bendin on the chassis for clearance ! I got a scale coming this week so I will weigh the front rock, rear rock , 14 bolt and hp60 front and post up all the weights for comparison , everyone always wants to know the true weight of each

Drill the taper hole down from the top but not all the way so there's still a shoulder in the bottom of the hole, I then turned some tapered bushing and put em in from the top so the tie rod fits back in tightly , pretty easy if ya have a lathe, works good but looks like its not quite gonna clear the driveshaft with this setup so im gonna add heims instead to lower it, I have this setup on the back of my jeep and clear it works great

could you get the weight pn that front before its installed???
good job keeping the link mounts to a minimum!

ok thanks I kinda thought you don something like that I'm redoing my front setup now and was trying to keep the steering and the rotor and all on the backside but its proving to be difficult like 15 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag.

Its been a long time since I've had a rear non steer Rockwell axle, but is that round part next to the hub normal or did you widen the rear? My front axe as been narrowed 71/4 in with hubs flipped out and my rear steer is stock with hubs flipped in. I'm 91 in out tire to out tire with 44 tsl's and dbl. Beadlocks.

I didn widen them, I cut the round brake drum flange off and smoothed it all down so it does look different, most people leave that on but it's ugly

Fronts in, making new lower 4 link bars this week, driveshaft and brake caliper and fronts done, the back is ready to go in , polish the bead locks and mount the tires and maybe it'll be back in the woods in a few weeks

I got stock shafts in the back for now , id like to build another steer axle for the rear sometime and we' ll see how these fronts shafts do before I buy another set, and ya I'm ready to beat it like it owes me rent money!

I just went oversons all the way around. Had stock axles and installed a new big block strocker and first day got rear shaft and Detroit locker. Next trip blew tranny. Installed a new TCI.. Went to lions den and got a front shaft. I now have front oversons and have beat the crap out of it and so far so good. My rig is long and heavy and hard to keep parts in. I live in middle tn and we have a lot of rocky parks around here. Hope you like your new axles.
