Building a set of rockwell for my ol smith buggie

I just went oversons all the way around. Had stock axles and installed a new big block strocker and first day got rear shaft and Detroit locker. Next trip blew tranny. Installed a new TCI.. Went to lions den and got a front shaft. I now have front oversons and have beat the crap out of it and so far so good. My rig is long and heavy and hard to keep parts in. I live in middle tn and we have a lot of rocky parks around here. Hope you like your new axles.

halcat did u end up going with 2in shafts or the 16 spline since I did some changen on mine got figure out what I'm gonna do for axels and we dam sure need to go riden again sorry for derail badass lookn rocks

Ntidwell, we will ride again. I ended up with 16 spline oversons all the way around. I've got good power but not gross power. I'm also 60 years old and in the const. Business and find it hard to abuse equipment. I've looked at my axles and the splines are still good and straight. I'm not a bouncer so the 16 spline will prolly be good enough. I just wish mine looked as good on the outside as Rckwells607's do.

Been slackin on pics, it's almost ready for test n tune, driveshafts are in, chassis and link bars are modified And done , shocks are back on, right now I have the seats out redoing the dash and twin stick levers, ill try to get some pics up this weekend

Can you take a pic of how you done the tie rod on the back like that I'm redoing mine now with blue torch fab towers and it looks like I may have to put my steering on the front but I don't want to I'd like to copy yours if you don't mind but my brackets for the lowers may not let me thanks love the buggy even more now with the rocks

It's tight but clearance is clearance and everything clears lock to lock and the link bars protect all the steering , and it leaves a nice clean look in take front in my opinion, the stock tie rod flipped interfered with the drive shaft flange so I went with heims that sat a little lower and provided just enough clearance for the driveshaft

That's what I'm going to do my pinion brake is on the back side and I can't get everything on the back so ill pretty much have to copy yours thanks for the damn good pics sir.

I didn't , the scales I was gonna borrow fell through .... Guess I will keep guessing but I still don't think there is the huge weight difference from a stripped down rock with pinion brakes vs. a one ton with wheel brakes

Got the new dash and twin sticks machined and installed , test drove it yesterday....loving how the gearing brought the motor to life over the 4:10 I was runnin in the tons, test drive went well so I pulled it back in the shop for some tube work for more clearnace on the rear 3rd member

Gonna add more tube but this is the start and ruff idea of what the rear will look like, it's an old smith chassis so I don't wanna get to wild with curves and make it not look like the rest of the chassis

I also got a new brake line kit from speedway with the clear nylon brake line to install , clean up that mess that's on there now

I would like to know the difference in weight and also the difference in parasitic lose between a set of tons and a set of rocks. It would be interesting data.

Your shock mounts, are they square tube cut out? I like them simple and strong.

Looks like it. I've made a bunch like that, either used 2" 1/4" wall or 1.75" 1/8" wall. Works good since most shocks are 1.5" wide mounts

It's a 2007 smith chassis, by lookin at it I'd say yes it is square tube and they have taken a beatin and held up with no issues from me or the prior owner...

The tube it's attached to is it .120 or .188?

.120 wall, it's held up fine but the bottom 4 link cage is bashed to hell being .120 wall, the buck nasty buggy I'm building I used .188 wall just for that reason
