Can this be repaired??

You Mentioned replacing the rear main and freeze plugs so why not freshen up the tranny while you have it out. The cracked case should be easy fix once you get someone to weld it.

Or talk with Marcus here on the board!

MarcW is his name on here, send him a PM or somthing that guy can TIG it for ya

I would second that. He has plenty of filler(i gave him mass). He is in Kirkland and works a really fawked up schedule.

Ya his schedule is weird, but man that guy can TIG weld like no tomorow, and im pretty sure he would do it for a decent price too. Although he would be doing it at like 4 in the morning hahaha

Okay got 4 options:

1: Buy new housing and have everything swapped over into it. $500-600
2: Buy rebuilt 44RE for $1,350-1,400
3: Buy rebuilt 46RE-Bigger, stronger than 44RE same length as 44RE $1,600-1800
4: Buy Performance rebuilt 46RE-Bigger, stronger w/valve body & improved clutch packs & other mods. Comes with 1,800 RPM stall TC

Okay so which would you do? With the weight of my Jeep do I need the 46RE? Do I need the performance tranny?

This is my personal opinion:

Id do the Perf rblt 46re with the convertor. Does it have the same boss breakage problem though?

Couldnt tig it? Or just decide to replace it to start?
From what everyone is telling me getting it welded MIGHT work. So instead of taking that chance yes I have decided to just replace it.

Who's telling you that it may work?

Welding it will work....period.

But if you are hell bent on spending more money than you might as well upgrade it.

No I am not hell bent on spending more money. Just from some of the advise I got it sounded like it was a 50-50 chance it would work. I am just tired of the damn thing being broke all the time.

Then have it welded, if done right it will work like new. Will no one weld it for you?

Not over here but I am going to bring it with me to that side of the hills next week. If MarcW can't do it I'll call the place you suggested before.

Did you PM MarcW? Im sure he could do it for ya, hes a pretty amazing tig welder

Ya Marc is a pretty good tig'er...Somebody who I would call if I needed something like that done

Okay the saga continues!! :corn:
I took the tranny over to Rick Pratt at Snohomish Transmission and was going to have hime swap all the parts over to a new case. Simple, cheap & effective. Well I get a call from Connie on Wednesday saying she had some BAD news for me!!  It seems this low mileage tranny that I had swapped into my Jeep is SHOT. The clutches & bands were burnt, the overdrive plantaires were pitted and a washer was fixin to let loose.

So I call the shop that did the engine/tranny swap for me and ask what they are going to do about this. So after a little back and forth we agree on 50-50 for the cost to rebuild. But he wants me to take it to his tranny shop in Kent.

Can anyone tell me anything about TRC in Kent? So I'll be coming over next week, picking the tranny up from Sno Trans and take it to TRC. Hopefully I can have it back in a week or so.
