dana 300 vs. toyota dual cases

ok so im tryin to be a cheapass.. i kno..

But in my situation what would be the disadvantage of just running a single case w/ the 4.70 gearset...
Obviously off road w/ 4:56 in the axle, 42's and the 4 cyl Im not gna be using high range.... and prolly wouldnt ever put one case in high and one in low... Duals give me approx 4.60 reduction..

Im not scared to use 4lo 5th gear on hill climbs.. thats why they make 5 gears in the tranny.... :eat:

doubler low range actually nets you a 5.12:1 ratio.

Also, doubler allows you the option of 2Lo which you will want driving around town, access roads etc. Maybe that isn't a big deal to you though in which case there is a negligible difference between 4.7 and 5.12 low ranges.

yea, still debating...

Actually I was digging around through some crap in the garage and Found 2 toyota top shift cases.
1 assembled and one disasembled... Haha who would have thought...

May just go with the 4.7 gearset in teh case i have sitting here and rock out.. Can always double it up later...

J Rich-

I'm runnin 23 spline trail gear dubbler and the trail gear 4.7 gear set in my rear case... ... 4.56 and detroits in the tons and 42's

I can put mine in high range and drive, its not a big deal... just slip that clutch then get after it! :dblthumb:

how often you use double low???

Looks like im just gna be rockin the single case w/ 4.70's and the Long output for the time being..
Double it up later if need be...

my $0.02....... :flipoff1: :flipoff1: :flipoff1:

go with the doubler. with the 4 banger you need hi, lo and double lo. wish i had went with it instead of the 4.7 in a single case.

the massive HP/TQ #'s of my BOSS22R is a little shy of pulling a middle gear that you need running trails (I have hi range and 4.7:1 lo).

i had just had a rear driveshaft built ($$$)and cheaped out of a double case build when i went 4.7 in a single case. the double cases give you a little better lo range ratio and a middle gear, unless you go the ultimate route and do both :afro: :afro: :afro:

thanks for the offer, but a little leary of the balljoint fronts...

Got a hook up on a set of cucv's local for a good deal
and pretty much have the deal on my tranny and cases nailed down...

You get the ones I told you about?

I throw my experience out there

3-4 years with a used dual case set up, stock 22re, manual, 35's and pretty hard on it in comps.
I put a rear disconnect on it and do front digs too

in that time I've exploded a marlin dual row bearing in the double - weird freak occurance when all the moons align but I usually figure out how to do it.
couple weeks ago I broke the front portion of the case off

during most that time I had 4.88's or 4.10s and a stock output. I upgraded to long's output but my stock one wasn't even twisted, I was suprised
my 4.7 gears in the rear case look new and so does the rest of it.f

One thing that I'm looking at for future builds is the output of the yota case is extremely high, the drivetrain is tall and long and by the time you have duals, 4.7 gears, disco, output, adapter, 23 spline stuff you coulda had an atlas.

I use super low alot during comps and it is useful but typical trail ridin you just use 4.7 anyway, never just 2 to 1
