Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

You buy those?!?!?!! :woot: :woot:

Easier to just ride on used up tires there and haul up two new ones. I am thinking I am riding to the main event now. The Husky has 6 gears and is ultra smooth on the highway. The seat sucks, but I could use some hemroids. loller.gif I will be running a non DOT MX tire up front tho, so unsure how that will work out for 400 miles of roads.

SE Missouri is roughly halfway and Poplar Bluff I hear is a nice area to ride (Mark Twain Forest). Hit Southern MO and Northern AR....just tossing out ideas. Take a look around and post up what locations sound good to you.

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

My front is non DOT and after 800 it still looks golden... .the rear not so much, its still on the bike right now and the center knobs are gone and its damn near riding on the carcus ! laughing1

I got that used Interco MX DOT Bogger tire for the rear to swap on just havent gotten it done since its damn rained so much lately.

And yes, soon that wheel / combo will be in route. I need to be able to swap back and forth for street as I am a tire killer on pavement. Be cheaper and less painful in the long run. It literaly takes 10mins to swap wheels and tires on my bike. Its to easy.

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

Oh I get it. Trust me and I would look into another wheelset for mine, but I have other street rides I can fawk off on. Plus a motard bike around here is useless. Tried it.

Can't wait to compare both bikes as I have never ridden an XRR before, and would own one now if I could tag it here. They sell for cheap and it's a god damn Honda.

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

If I get to go I would like to tow to somewhere closs. :****:

Still bikeless at the moment, but talked to Chase last nite and he wants to sale me his DRZ.

Really think I wanta go Honda, but I have tossed the idead of a KTM. :dunno:

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

F. Towing, Its not an adventure unless you ride it... :****:

and yea, What bones mentioned is what all the cool DS guys do..
Ride the slab on ur worn current shoes, and pack a new set to swap upon arrival, or call ahead to bike shop and order a set...
ride it on back home on the news... booyang

Ride, rinse, repeat

You talked me into it. If I have a bike I am in.

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

ull either own one or be on a loaner... :flipoff1:

My ankle still hurts from slapping it down the other day in one of those flat-tastic gravel curves...
flat tracking the FS roads is a good time.. :drinkers:

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

Owned 2 640 KTM's and would not wan to ride either that far THEN ride in the dirt. People do it, people love em (I do respect them), but they are not the end all be all bike as far as a large thumper goes. Toss me the keys to a 950 Super Enduro and I will tour the **** outta that and eat up tires. Vibby mu-fuggers. I think I found the bike for me in the Husky. Great power, suspension, brakes, not vibby, 6 speed, feels light even though it's 300+ pounds.

Only reason I will trailer is to bring tools, spare tires and a beer cooler for at night. It has it's place and I am not one to care if you call me a ***** for trailering when I am leaving Sunday in AC and cruise control. laughing1

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

I want a light weight, mild offroad capable trailer for my dual sport... hitit

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

I'll only ride mine out if I have the wheel set to swap and someone to carry the dirt's. **** all that carryin tires and packing down like old man bones on his KLR.... oh snap wait :flipoff1:

These doods with the DS's with big ol boxes and all that ****, I just dont get it.... hell if I wanted a goldwing buy a gold wing ! laughing1

Yo won't be packing much then I take it? I will likely get some soft bags to carry most my **** in and a dry bag strapped to the tail for cloths and **** I don't want to get wet.

For a 4-5 day trip...bring shirts you can toss in the trash, lots o undies and socks, the rest is just excess. I do overpack, always have always will, but I am getting better.

Ship them UPS to your starting point, swap tires, and ship the others back. Nan & I used to always ship clothes to our middle point and ship back dirty clothes and and purchases made along the way.

WAY too cost prohibited unless you have a company account thumb.gif Shipping stuff is getting stupid spendy I think and DS tires are generally pretty cheap and easy to buy along the way.

Two wheel setups, next P will be showing up on a loaded Bimmer GS rollin deep. :flipper:

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

If i am gona take a long road trip on pavement. I am taking the road king.

If we r gona carry spare tires, parts, and coolers we will have crapped tied everywhere.

Then if we camp that is even more stuff.

Re: Dual Sport Trip - Spring 2010

Tank bag, soft saddle type bags and a backpack strapped on the rear of the seat for a back rest...
tool wrap on the front fender... will pick up tires at shop close to starting point, if we decide not to trailer...
Don't need a beer cooler, more than enough jim beam can be bought and stored in my pack...

and as far as not packing ****... this isn't a 12 hr adventure, and my desired destination isn't gonna include many if any towns ie stores, hotels, etc...
so its run what u brung, and wheelies are that much easier w/ bags strapped to the back... booyang
