You can do good fab work, but holy **** you like to make tons of extra work for yourself.

Is your thought process something like this? "Hmmm...Need to do trailing arms, should I just use some 2"x.25" wall HT chromo with some plating with minimum welding like everyone else? Nope, I'll make each one three tubes, have 6 feet of welding per link, and let the final product be heavy as ****? Yeah... I'll do that."

Or I could do like everyone else, and use 2 x 1/4 wall like you said, plate it all in and run fish plates, weld them on. Get less ground clearance and still weight about the same?
 
There is a fine line between functionality, durability and marketability. It doesn't take an entrepreneur to build the heaviest and most robust product on earth, it takes an entrepreneur to build a quality product people want to buy at a profitable yet marketable price point. What does a set of trailing arms like this cost to replace and what is the lead time during race season?

Looks like around $850 for a pair, with the pro-am wobble stoppers.
These prototypes will have 2 days time involved. Could probably build them custom like this in 1 day. Quicker if the plate work was laser cut.

I'll bring a scale tomorrow and weight them.

Your links, CL to CL, have less ground clearance at the axle end than an equal length 2"x.25" trailing arm with chro-mo plate for the shock mounts. Sometimes people do the same thing as others because it's what makes sense. Don't be different for the sake of being different, be different because it's better.

Good luck finishing the new car by your deadline.

It's an inch and a half gain, below the bypass and level at the rear. You assume the wrong center line.
 
I'm just gonna say what we are all thinking.... I'm glad my money isn't sunk into this build :wtflol:

Is it all chromo? If so how do you post heat? If I remember right any chromo thicker than .120(???) Needs to be post heated.

I don't think there is any 1/4 wall in most of the arms I have seen... Lots of laminated (layers) of .125" plate though

Think they just want to see some chassis tubing or something.
I'm going to just keep doing my thing.

When the time comes, feel free to grab a stop/watch.

I'll build this entire tig welded chassis in one week, just for fun, and so all the good people watching can witness real time.

Keep at it. Nobody wins races doing what 90% of the competition is doing. Thats why 10% win 90% of the races. It's all the little things that make the difference. :dblthumb:
