Elbe Hills Rock Crawl - help needed

A lot of you have been to or seen the obstacles at the Faithwheelers 4x4 events we used to put on - before we got shut down... It'll be the same kind of technical difficulty as the Tuff Truck course and Buggy Hill, as we called them. It could be a blast to design and build, not to mention test and drive.

I've been trying to forward to Nancy some pics of people on their favorite obstacles so that she gets a better idea about what the NW Wheeler wants. This trail will be well marked as a hardcore trail and I think that will aleviate her fears of people getting on the trail unprepared (like what's been known to happen on the busy).

You need to remember that when you build a trail with non natural materials(bringing in rocks) you create a liability issue for the landowner. This is a big reason why the DNR and FS frown on such things. and yes I know rocks are natural. its one thing to rearange the existing material but totaly another to create obstacles from outside sources. It would only take one lawsuit to close down the whole park because some idiot couldnt read and hurt themselves:booo:

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about that idea. I don't recall many big rocks there but if we had a decent size excavator and a dump truck I'm sure that we could significantly reduce the costs...

I'll ask!

There is quite a few rocks right there Jim.

exactly. changing something existing is differant then creating something new. just trying to explain as to why a roadblock may happen. I would highly suggest talking with the quadra paws about how they got the rock piles at Tahuya. It can be done as Tahuya is proof but how and how much is the question.

Well get busy.........:redneck:

all the local log roads around here are usually self supplied materials. there are more pits all over up there. theres one at copper creek too. and a couple between elbe hills orv and eatonville going to scott turner rd. the back way.
just need a hoe and a truck to move rocks!:awesomework:

Well thanks for the help!!!!!

Brian, if you want to come to the PNW4WDA Region 2 meeting thursday, we can talk with Nancy as she's going to be there as a guest. Usually a couple of the Quadrapaws show up. The meeting's at the Tumwater Bar and Grill in Olympia. It's open to anyone, PNW4WDA member or not.

We're supposed to get a pretty big storm Thursday which may hurt attendance. but we'll see.

We are also setting up focus group meetings again for Elbe. These are now going to be with the 4x4 people only. We used to share meetings with the horse people, ATV and snowmobile people. You name it everyone showed up. Now we've separated those groups so that we can get more done. ANYONE interested in helping or getting involved with Elbe should attend these focus group meetings. I'll be posting these dates, times and addresses online.

Sounds like your the man with some local connections! You think you can make a few calls and see if anyone will let us come pick a few rocks for free? I know I can get an excavator or two and Karl may have a line on a dump truck for us.

We're heading in the right direction!

ive lived in this area for years and think it might be easy to find some local help. i love this trail system, but it lacks trails. and kinda sucks compared to preclearcut era. no busywild trail it was the 8 HOUR trail then. elbe needs more extreme trails. its already good lets make it nastier.

Yeah. I have some great video of you LOL. Pretzeled your control arms!

There were actually 4 in the class but one broke before the race started, another got high centered on the log making the hairpin turn. Kind of a freaky way that he got stuck.

I'm sure you remember that 25' rock as well as I do.:D
