Elbe on the chopping block?

Your security gaurds would have to be on the ball.

Even with a gate, and blocking off the main access to the Sunrise, and Busy, those two trails are close enough to the main road that it would be really easy to drop in to them.

Im not interested AT ALL in an "Elbe Country club".

:rolleyes::booo:

You don't have to be. Either way you could be shut out. If they close because they don't have money, you don't get to go. You don't like a membership idea (if it ever was to go that route) then you don't get to go.

No one says that you have to.

You are not realistic about alternatives. In reading your posts in the pasts, you seem to think that it's your RIGHT to do what you want on public land. You seem to think that you are entitled to wheel (at Elbe) and that the government is required to support it and provide the finances for it. None of this is true.

So when budget cuts come done the line you'll have to deal with the results however you see fit. Yes, you can do what you can now to encourage the DNR and the government to continue to provide money for a completely optional and controversial recreational activity but that option appears to be going away, if not this year, soon. I for one, do not believe that the government should be in this business, or any of our business and should go back to doing what it was designed to do, but that's another entire thread!

If it comes down to an Elbe Country Club or no Elbe, you're still not interested?
Not saying that other options are not available, just putting something on the table.

Hunters are allowed up there...

Shooting is not allowed on or near the trail, so how can they hunt there? Unless you're referring to bow hunters and I'm pretty sure that they would have similar restrictions.

Yep, it would be easy to block off the alternate entrance to the Sunrise.

Didn't say it would be easy, just an option.

It's illegal to fire a gun in a ORV park. Not sure what kind of hunting they could do without a gun?:eeek:

After some checking it looks as though we're wrong. Target shooting isn't allowed but hunting is.

There's a lot of hunters up there during hunting season... They can't shoot across or from the trail... I helped a couple guys a few years ago drag a buck up from the clear cut by the Gotcha...

Dunno, about hunters. I don't know if they would or could lose access as well if the park is closed by the DNR. If they don't that might be a tough one. Not impossible to deal with but I don't have a short answer to that. If the park is being managed by a private company they may have to make arrangements to gain access just like they would on private foresty land.

That one would create an interesting snag. But I wouldn't put the needs of a few hunters above the general use and purpose of the park which is ORV. I would think the hunters access would be restricted to that section of the forest. There's TONs of land in that forest that is not part of the park, and is still public land.

There is a law in place that says if the land is leased for the purpose of grazing cattle then the land must stay open to hunting. This to me implies that if the land is leased for other purposes then maybe the option of no hunting is a possibility......I would be willing to bet that if a guy were to lease DNR land he would have to discloe what he plans to use the land for. At that point just say closed to hunting and list uses.......

There might also be another law or rule that states no shooting in an ORV trail system area.

I think people can hunt on the left side of 9 road but not the right side where the trails are.

Don't know if it varies from one area to another in DNR land, but you can hunt in the ORV areas at Tahuya.

So, shooting is allowed, for the purposes of hunting.

They can hunt on the right side of the 9 rd also... Pretty popular...

I can't believe nobody else has dealt with hunters up there...

Let me ask you this...

What if it was getting shut down??? There was no way for the DNR to keep it open because of funds...

A group of fern pickers leased the land for there use... All of a sudden, you have no access to the trail system or they came up with restrictions regarding when, where and how you can wheel the area... Far fetched??? Yes... Well, maybe, maybe not...

I bet there's more areas that have been closed to wheeling but still allow hunters or gathers, compared to the hand being on the other foot...

BTW, the fern pickers buy a license to do that... Just like the seaweed harvesters...

And regardless of what they say, that license or lease gives them ZERO rights on the land as far as control of it goes. It's not their land to manage.

Exactly... What makes you think the wheeling community has any rights as far as control over the land???

Making Elbe a privately leased ORV park is a pipe dream...

It's the DNR's land to manage...
