Hardline Group on FB

I'm confused why you can't post from your phone?
I've always looked at this site on my iPhone through safari. I don't even own a computer.
Tapatalk does suck.
I made the "show replies to your post" an icon on my home page of my phone. Tap it get a quick update and back to life, if I have time I hit show unread post.

I have a iPhone use safari and have a link also to the unread post page. When I post a reply it times out. Doesn't matter if I am using wifi or cellular.

FB:
No one is saying "make or move build threads to FB" Look at Pirate 4x4 on FB...maybe a link to a build thread or some pictures that's all.

Hostage:
Not speaking for Eric, just my .02, it feels that some people either don't want things to evolve or they get very defensive when change is suggested.

A aside here, I like the constructive part of this thread. I think it has some positives. I fully support HL and want it to continue to grow. I hope we do some upgrading to the forum to make it better and I do look forward to more riding.

Without a text or phone call, Gregg and I are likely the only 2 original club members to even look at this thread... :gay:

I am not speaking for Eric, however here is my take:

Posting pictures is very hard. Photobucket going down didn't help.
I have tried TapTalk..I don't get it..its very hard for me
I cant even post on HL from my iPhone which means only from my Mac at home..not much gonna be posted if I have to go to this desk every time I want to post.
FB and invites with ical are the way to go. Example: there is a ride, post it up, click yes I'm going or no, see who is and its added to your iPhone ical
On FB, putting a NAME to a FACE and a FACE to a rig is easy. On here we have screen names. Its very difficult to know who is who.

I am not suggesting this as a move. Its not a move. A forum is a forum. Don't believe me? Pirate4x4 is on FB and the forum is still around. USA Today still has a paper and its on FB. Look around, a little progress is not a bad thing.

I keep hearing that. this member or that member doesn't post or isn't around. Did anyone every wonder why? They haven't left the 4wheeling world. They still are around. It is just not very easy to poke around. Think back to what Eric said above. Back in the day we had dial up, then something faster came up..we stopped using dial up now we use faster ****. This forum sometimes feels like that and that is no knock on the forum or those who contribute. A little change is not bad.

As Kush mentioned last night:
"Duddde. That blows. My phone sucks on the site.. bad. This **** is easy
I understand not wanting to take away from the site.. but it would cool to have a group on here with all the same guys. I miss Fukin around with everyone on the site.. but now that I work my ass off I don't have time to get on the site all day.. that **** takes way to long... ????"

Here's the real story. Fagbook sucks, everyone knows it but the forum is so old and dated it makes Fagbook look like a viable alternative. All the "pros" to Fagbook are easily achieved by moving this shitbox to a better server and upgrading to a professional forum software instead of using this dinosaur. You would probably even pull in new users from Fagbook. The current site is completely hamstrung by the so called OGs that don't give a **** about riding or the forum anymore but are unwilling to relinquish control for whatever reason. The forum isn't monetized so I don't know what the point is of holding on and letting it die. All hardline is now is a semi-recognizable domain name. I can't transfer/takeover the domain without permission from the owner, I've tried and gotten nowhere. I mean I probably could but I'm not going to. I could very easily register my own domain like hardlinecrawlerforums.com, start a new forum there, flush this turd down the toilet, and just hope everyone migrates over. I don't really have the time/energy to deal with it though and don't feel like dealing with anyone crying over copyright infringement or some other BS. So here we are. Watching a dinosaur slowly die.

Guys, read up please and let's leave this one alone. I had a long conversation with Ben the other night regarding this possible collaboration and after debating it with some other OG's, it was best solved by not having a conflicting site, as there are already others on FB that are. Ben in NO WAY was trying to influence members to leave the forum for a FB page, he was simply trying to populate the group for the better. If you know Ben like I do, he would never instigate an issue for something he has been involved with for so long. Please do not aim any harsh feeling for him as he is a Die Hard HLC member and always will be.

As for Andrew's input, he is right in some of what he is saying here. We are existing only because of you guys here each and everyday. Without you, we are nobody. We have never asked for a dime which is more than I can say for some of the other similar forums. Our server is antiquated and have tried to update it's software and have thrown what little money we have to keep it somewhat updated. It will take a hell of a lot more money and time to make it like some of the others, so till then, we have to do the best we can by using tapatalk and other sites to help load pictures, etc. Andrew is also right in saying that other OG's who have not participate on the site, want nothing more than to sell it off to profit themselves. I can understand somewhat their wants, but to me and Paul who are the ONLY ONES MODERATING this forum for FREE, I do not want to sell it. I monitor this forum all the time to help it keep running smooth from the fights, to someone selling their ****ing pills, I am always here, ALWAYS, and if you can't get me here or by my cell phone, you can get Paul. I love this site and will do everything I can to keep it running. Till the Fat Lady sings, ride on bitches and drink some frosty barley pops for me. GREGG 205-482-5628 cell or call if you feel the need to talk.

Not a tantrum at all and I'm sorry if the truth hurts your feelings. I never asked to help out here, I was asked by others because I have some expertise to offer. If I was an "OG" like yourself I would be doing something to fix this shitshow and I would be starting by trying to get rights to the name+domain because that's the only thing you guys have that's worth a flip. You showed up after a 10 year absence, deleted half the for sale section and planned a couple rides. Congrats At least I've put forth some effort into trying to save the thing.

Not real sure why you went that direction. I think everyone knows who he was talking about.

P, you started the message board right? Why dont you put some pressure on the other OG's to make some changes.

If you and Paul are the only OGs left that participate you guys have to make a run at Matt or whomever to get the domain even if it costs some money. Then you guys are going to have to come out of pocket to build a new board and get on a decent server. That's the path to fixing this thing.

P isn going to do that. Right now he has no skin in the game and can come and go as he pleases.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but what actual "profits" do they stand to gain? This isn't like Pirate that had paying members, advertising, etc. I don't see what "profit" there really is.

Andrew has some extremely valid points.

Paul, us bitching back and forth isn't doing anything constructive for the board. Also, the pissing contest does not need to spill over into hardline.

95% of the OGs aren't doing ****. Point blank period. Everyone can sugar coat it however you want.

Several of us "newer" easyline members were asked to help get this board going back in the correct direction, and a lot of us are trying. (The trolling is way down/ tech is up and so on). I don't think FB is a good idea. Ben, thank you for handling that tactfully/ promptly.

Also, rides need to be discussed here before posted on the main board. I spoke with half a dozen guys in easyline when the feb. hardline ride was posted and no one knew about it. Kinda hard to have a good "hardline" turn out if none of us know about it. We already know no/ hardly any OGs/Club members ever show up.

You are correct, it is not a huge number as we have not let it come to that but it would be something rather than nothing. It is based upon our members count and activity daily. IH8MUD and Pirate are huge because they charge, we are not because we choose not to be.

Again, if this question is out of line, I'm sorry, not my intention. Why not find out what it would take, money wise, to gain control of the domain. Then find out what it would take, money wise, to get the forum onto a new platform. Maybe this has already been done. Just a thought. Just seems like if you said, it's going to take X number of dollars to improve the forum, members would probably be willing to pitch in to make it happen. I could be wrong.

I just wanna be able to post from my phone. I can only post about 10% of the time. Like ben I have to go to a computer most of the time

I came back because I was asked to help as well
I consider you OG even though you we're not a club member back when there actually was a club
I've not organized a single ride only posted there was a ride happening that has happened for years at the same place in the same month that JohnG originated ( again because I was asked to by folks that aren't part of the current " click " and not in Easy line )
Yes I ****ed up the for sale section. And fully owned it via General Discussion thread I started.
Yes that is also why I would not, could not and should not try to purchase a domain and try to run these forums from my phone while I'm at work turning wrenches in an industrial environment.
Gregg basically is in the same department with internet and software management expertise. Or the lack there of.

I feel like the question becomes :
Who wants to and is able to own and run this forum and solve all the Tech issues and deal with all the my phone / Tapatalk how to's, ride dates , comp dates, and general Calendar up keep ? OG status to ME is ALL the guys that been here from jump and stuck around good and bad. The Club doesn't exist guys, this forum and what's left of it does.

* My feelings aren't hurt but the entire lumping of OGs as one group thing drives me up the wall. Gregg and I are the ONLY 2 people even trying. If it weren't for Gregg asking for my help because he truly needed it I'd still just lurk this forum and follow everyone's adventures on FB or Instagram because it's much easier for me

I know you think I'm up your ass with all this ride stuff. But here is were I am wanting to go with it. Dont get upset just honest opinion.

How many people that are not easyline asked you to do this? Cause it seems there is a lot larger group that would have liked to seen it discussed than a couple of these other folks you mentioned. Who are these people that aren't in the "click"?

I am going to try to make this ride at HPO. But maybe on the next one there could be some discussion about trying to get a huge turn out.

This maybe a spin off of what BBone tried. Would setting up an event page on fb for a legit hardline ride bring more traffic to the forum? I think so. Just like promoting rbd on fb it gets people there. No build threads just hey we are having a ride on this date at this park. Come check it out or come to the forum for details.

I posted it in The rides section as I was asked to, to help get people there. The group going is going regardless... Sharing details. I wasn't asked to make a flyer and post to FB sorry :flipoff1:

I get what your saying. But I'm not a paid promotions manager. I don't know all the details of the BBone page thing, only that Gregg and him spoke and handled it like grown men and it's all good.

I am the 1st to tell someone to **** the **** off, but I don't think Andrew deserved your response at all. He has some valid points that will help. Was your response helpful to our current discussion?

Now, there are some good ideas and thoughts otherwise being discussed and as I see it, obviously a forum upgrade would help. So do we:

1. Go for the forum upgrade? What is the cost and what info stays or gets deleted if we upgrade?

2. Do nothing

3. Explore social media options to help organize rides and post pictures of said rides. No one is suggesting moving the forum.

4. Start all over, new name, new everything and do it the way it can be done in 2019.

5. Everyone **** the **** off and we never discuss or bitch about HL again and just let it be which is #2 but I really just wanted to type **** the **** off again because its fun.
