Iron Duck Fab #8 my buggy build

Hy-guard low viscosity is similar to ATF viscosity. Standard Hy-guard will lower stall a couple hundred rpm. My understanding is ATF has a lot more cleaning agents than hydraulic fluid which can have performance downsides. I am not worried about cleaning agents in a crawler that gets beat or racing application. I recently switched from Amsoil ATF to low vis Hy-guard and have been happy. I read a lot on racing forums like Yellow Bullet before taking word from PTC.

This should be its own thread in tech.

I'm running 303 in a 03 48RE and it's lasted 3 years, which is about 2 years longer then it ever lasted between rebuilds before this one, I don't know if it was of the quality rebuild (josh Rohlings) but it has lasted. This truck doesn't move unless it has a trailer or is going to get a load.

I've just been trying to not downshift while it's moving.

Copied an idea on here and made a roof. It was supposed to be for rain but the shade will be nice too.

I had a bunch of fuel problems at chocco w4w bc a stupid mistake on my part. I got the parts to do a whole fuel system redo/upgrade so hopefully it'll be good for more potatoes.

In short,

Tractor/equipment hydraulic fluid is made to transfer power. The additive package will only be for anti aeration and equipment longevity

Dexron/mercon/ATF has additives to shift softer/run quieter/etc. purely for driving characteristics

There isn't "that" much difference, but the "benefits" of ATF are kind of lost on a buggy trans

Plus you can run the 303 in your steering too.

This is great info. PTC recommended I run hydraulic fluid in my 350 (which I am) just never understood why.

I've definitely noticed a difference in stall and how hard it shifts.

Ed has told me that as well, but I always have ran a quart of Dexron for it's color value on the stick. You cannot see it when it's all clear and the red tint is just enough to see it

To add color, ask @Dirt700 for whatever fluid coloring he uses. It doesn't really show in the picture, but the fluid at the top right of the mud puddle was an odd color green/blue.

I saw this machine at Hale Mtn one time and it is very nice. Love Jduck's work and would love to have one of his chassis.
