Is this a good deal?

That don't look like too bad of a deal. Is there a phone number?

Did you see the Ramcharger I sent you?

I'd look for a Cherokee and stay away from all the big heavy stuff.

This! Don't want to buy something for $2k like in the first post and then have to spend another $2k+ to get it trail worthy. Buy something someone has already mildly built like an old Cherokee on 35's for like $3500 that is ready to go and you'll save money in the long run.

Planning to go buy this tomorrow.

Plan is to put my wheels w/ 35's on it, either weld or put a Trac-loc in the rear, weld the front, put manual locking hubs and a cable lock for the cad in the front, 4.56 gears, paint the passenger front fender "seller has the paint already", and fix/charge the ac.

Haha, that's funny. This will be my second one, I had a really nice one a few years back. My mom had a 2wd when I was growing up.

I know they're big and heavy but that's all I've ever wheeled was big heavy trucks. Should be ok, they have a Dana 44 in the front and a 9.25 rear...it's similar in strength to a Dana 60 but semi float instead of full float. Biggest tire I'll probably ever run on it will be 37-38".

Have fun snapping front axles in that heavy beast. For the money i think you could do a lot better.

Kel, do you have any contact info for that Cherokee? I don't have facebook. And I have a weakness for FSJs.

I had an 86 I bought new. Had 5% limo tint everywhere except the windshield, it had 30%, with a 5% strip across the top. Good thing the windows were fast, bacause you had to roll them down to see out to turn at night. Before all the tint laws.

Had both fenders dented and drivers door dented to the point it broke the window in under 3k miles. That was when I realized you could not take them from the showroom to the woods. I had two sets of tires. I would take it to Tire Engineers every Friday and they would put my mudders on it. Then back on Monday to have the street tires put back on. They stored the other tire/wheel set for me.

Well, I'll be honest....I'm not gonna be doing any hardcore wheeling. Not really gonna get to do a whole lot of wheeling....I've got 5 kids that keep me pretty busy doing other stuff. Mostly it'll be driven around to the ball park and stuff like that which is why I'll probably put the Trac-loc in the rear instead of welding it up.

I was just wanting to buy something that I could use all my parts on that I've already got: wheels, tires, gears and some engine parts that'll work on it too.

As far as the money part goes....I'm only giving $2500 for it. All I could find for that price in my area were clapped out cherokees and that scout in the op. Yeah I could've drove 4-5 hours onr way and bought something a little better but again I don't have time for that. My plan was to run 35's on whatever I bought so I'm sure I would've broke some D30 shafts too.

As I said before I don't have alot of time to take on a project that doesn't run or needs lots of work. So it is what it is. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

If that's the case i wouldn't weld the front but i would put a good locker in the rear. I, along with most here lol, have wheeled a welded 44 front. Even with 35's on that fullsize rig is a disaster waiting to happen. Back in the day i had a 44 under a relatively light jeep wrangler. I could wheel all day, then stop for something and back up on level ground and grenade an axle. After a while it starts to destroy other parts, such as ball joints, spindles, axle seals. It gets old quick.

I gotcha. Well that's why I'm gonna leave the cad in place and run one of those cables instead of vacuum to it so that I can leave it where it only pulls with the passenger side front tire unless I engage the other side if I really need it to pull both front tires.

As far as the rear...I've already got an almost brand new Trac-loc, which is a pretty aggressive limited slip. I know it is not as good as a locker but I've got it already so I might as well use it. It's either use the Trac-loc or weld the rear. I've wheeled trucks with both, I would prefer to have it welded or locked for riding but as much as this rig will see road use I'm sure I'll be better off using the Trac-loc.

I wheeled this truck for a while with 35's and it has the same running gear that the Ramcharger does. But it had stock 3.23 gears, welded rear and open front. I beat the piss out of it and never broke anything. So hoping I can make the Ramcharger live a little while.

We used an 85 for hauling wood when i was growin up; loved that truck. Inspired my brother to restore an 89 Cummins. 318 or 360? 727TF?

318, wish it had a 360...they are very hard to find with a factory 360.

A-518 4 spd auto, basically a TF727 with an overdrive.

NP241 transfer case.

I'll see if he still has it and get a number.

I appreciate it bud. I wonder if he meant 4 in the floor. IIRC those either came with a 3speed auto or a 4 speed manual.

Yeah I noticed that too...and even researched it. You are correct it should be a 3 spd auto or 4 spd manual.

You end up picking that up? We basically had the same budget. I picked up mine for 1900. 33's, 4" lift, ac works, and locked front and rear. Deals can be had, just got to hunt for it. I'm not a huge fan of Facebook, but that is the new craigslist for high school kids to sell stuff on the cheap that their parents bought them. I see deals on there daily.
