jeep help!!!!!!!!!

not trying to sound like a redundant, broken record, one-legged parrot by repeating what has already been said...

but...

in my years of experience, it is sounding like you are 180* out on the dist.

just rotate the engine back to your 'TDC' mark, pull the dist cap, *note the pointing of the rotor*, lift up the dist, rotate the rotor to point exactly oposite, reinsert the dist, and give it a go...

either it will run or not..

it costs nothing but about 5-10 minutes to do this and no extra parts needed.

just saying, because I just had to do this to another friend's vehicle after him bugging me for about a month to come and get his car running after he did the same thing...

give it a shot, nothing to lose.. :awesomework:

alright, i want to start by saying thanks to every one on this forum that has been lending knowledge. at any point in time i was not trying to prove anyone wrong, im just the type of person that needs an explanation to why for something.

anyways, i checked the plugs and checked out good, i then tore it apart and reset the cam 180* and re-indexed the dist to point just barely past #1 and no go, unfortunatly my engine has seen much better days, i did a compression test and came out with horrable results of 80-20-90-55, i put oil in the cylinder and it rose a bit to 90-30-90-60, my assumption is my rings are shot, goodbye renix 2.5  :booo:

Yup....I do know that on a SBC, if you do a timing chain/gears...and line the timing marks so they point to each other----and you set the dist to #1, you WILL be 180* out...
It's been so long since I've looked at a timing chain on a 2.5L, but it seems to me that the results are the same as a SBC....if you point the marks to each other, you will be 180* out if you point the dist at #1...

Thanks for confirming that I wasn't altogether crazy... :redneck:

yea i wish i knew if it was 180* out for sure but i dont, i reset everything as all of you suggested but no dice due to horrable compression,
now i am on the search for a 2.5 wrangler motor or a 4.0 with harness and ecu to swap in let me know if any of you have one lying around that is in good shape thanks again

The 4 cyl chain alignment is a BITCH of a process to figure out. I redid mine 3 times to make sure it was right and it STILL didn't look right thanks to that tensioner POS in there.
