OK last week I drove my jeep all around town etc... Pressure washed it friday and parked it in the garage. No problems everything worked fine. Sunday I got out getting ready to take it over to Those guys for some work. No clutch.... Wont go in gear while running.

So I kicked the jeep a few times and call it names. Pull the tranny that evening and find a leaky slave.Clutch, pressue plate, flywheel all look good. Monday ordered a complete clutch kit, all i need is the slave but its cheaper to buy the entire clutch kit vs. a slave by it's seflf. Lastnight slapped the new slave in, mounted the tranny and bled the system. Well guess what.....

Still wont go in gear:mad:

So then I'm thinking oh **** tranny is busted, but how it worked fine the other day, no wierd noises, perfectly normal. So I pull the B&M shifter off to see down inside. Gear oil looks normal, not burnt, no shaving's. etc...

The tranny is fine. Shift's fine with the engine off, but wont go in gear when running. The only thing I can think or is left is the clutch assy itself or pilot bearing....BUT how does that **** go bad parked??????? :eeek:

Somebody speak to me and give some guidance. Remember this is the tech section, so no BS please.. Or Tree climber or whoever is the mod will lay the smack down.

Input please......

I'll be back. I gotta eat something before I go pull this tranny again...

Did the release bearing(throw out) slide easy? If not you got air in the system. My 2 cents and im a srupid ass mofo.

i bent the throwout bearing fork once and that caused the same problem.
does it make noise when you try to put it in gear?

Bad clutch master? Does it shift if you pump the clutch up a few times?

Nope brand new, tested it by clamping off the rubber part of the line and the pedal is hard as a rock. So Master is 100% good.

Ok more input. this is an internal slave.

Internal slave, the throughout is part of the slave. It was replaced with the new slave cylinder. I'm planning on bleading it again, hopefully but not counting on it. It's acting the exact way beofre I pulled the tranny and replace the slave.

Ok this time I am running upstairs for food. :redneck:

X2 on air in it... Also you probably damaged the line when you clamped it. This should be a high pressure hose and could be permanently deformed from the clamp.

If you're sure the clutch is disengaging all the way try starting it with the tranny in gear. Preferably a high gear so it doesn't accidentally jump on you.

pilot bearing....BUT how does that **** go bad parked??????? :eeek:
My cruiser's pilot seizes up if it sits for a while, have to start it in gear to break it free.

OK back form bleading it again. There is absolutely no air in the system. Pedal feel's normal. But still wont shift into gear.

The day I parked it I pressure washed the **** out of the jeep. I may have sprayed up into the clutch assy. You guys think its possible something seized in there, like the pilot??/

I guess I have no choice but to pull it again, and put all new **** in there.

Anyone wanna come remove 6-8 bolts??? I have beer. OK how about just 4 bolts??? The top bolt on the passengers side of the tranny is a BYiotch to get too and maybe a few other's. :redneck:

Put tranny in high gear, clutch disengaged, then start it. Does it turn over and start, then does it try to move on you if you do the same in 1st?

There's a damn-it clip that holds the inside of the slave cyl to the fork that moves the clutch in and out. Bet you a nickel it just popped off.

I bought a YJ for a $1000 a couple years ago because this was wrong with it. PM Digger5, as I sold that Jeep to him in that condition, and he fixed it. It's damn near a free repair, other than the PITA to pull the tranny to get inside of the bell housing,

If you can start it in gear, try driving it by syncro shifting the tranny. If it works by syncro shifting, I bet you a nickel this is it.

I know what clip your talking about its definately a damnit clip. But it actuaslly holds the slave to the tranny, comes with a new pin and clip. But it was on and replaced with the new slave. Its too far apart to go take it on a drive real quick. Syncho's should be good, tranny was rebuilt 2000 miles ago. I had no problems when I drove it around town a few days before. I just dont get it. So tomm night I'll finish pulling the damn thing and see whats up. I just dont get how it can break parked in the garage.

oh you owe me a nickel. :redneck:

I'm so ready to make this an auto:booo:

I'll gladly pay the nickel, but wait till tomorrow to see if it's it, or not.
And I kinda hope it is, as it's a cheap (albeit PITA) fix.
