Little Gibby's 45 MB

Perfect, so some time right after the new year?

PS don't forget to do me up a bill sometime :) I'm sure we're over $100 now, and that was my limit! HAHAHAHA

Perfect time to free up Mikes garage. I can drag mine up for a day of working ot some bugs

I'm with you on the money thing.....he has no problem ripping into a project, but never sends a bill. Kinda of backwards....no complaints here:D

I am always slow on that end,lol......

More than likely its going to take longer--but I have the other stall to use too...

Any luck on those measurements dale?

So I have been sitting the seats in the rig--and pondering ideas, looking, measuring and occasionally talking to myself :redneck:

SO what about this dale? Since I know we want this to be able to kinda grow with your boy (seat wise) and I am sure dad will wanna hop in it occasionally (but remember dad---this isn't your rig :fawkdancesmiley: ).......

So I got to thinking about the whole seat adjuster thing--and the one thing that really scrares me---is the fact the adjuster is not going to be near as strong as the cage (at least the couple I have worked with in the past haven't) and the whole point of this cage is safety and protection.

Now you can shoot me down on this but I am just brain storming..

So I got the idea of going with studs on the seat(mount) and going with multiple holes so the seat can be unbolted (and being studs it will be easier--trust me on this, lol,) and moved back--with like 3-4 sets of holes..

Like I say I was just brain storming/letting my head ponder :redneck:

You should probably fit it for Gibby since it will be 8 years before the boy is old enough to drive it :haha:

I don't have a problem with that idea at all. As long at it has tilt steering so that I, I mean HE can get in and out.

However, the seatbelt/harness is not bolted to the seat, so in the case of a roll over, isn't the seatbelt going to hold everything in place anyway. I will probably go will a full harness system since he'd like to try the jeep racing thing as well.

The column you brought has tilt :awesomework:

On the belts--yes and no. They will help retian the seat somwhat--but your body will take a hell of alot of punishment..

Oh---sheetmetal chunks are a fallin again :fawkdancesmiley:

Ok I got the door bars bent up. I went and tilted them/somewhat followed the contour of the tub--but will give a lil foot room for getting into the rig.

As mentioned before--I planned on notching the fender wells to get the seats back a lil farther. So I went and did some measuring, grabbed the sawzall and started hackin away. Nothing better than pure swazall agression..

gmb125.jpg

gmb126.jpg

So once I was able to get the seat into its full back position I went and figured the slope of the seat (3 degrees at the base) and also measured for the rear lower seat bar..

gmb127.jpg

Once the seat mounts are all one I will re-sheetmetal the holes closed.

I went an flopped the windshield up to see how it looked...

gmb128.jpg

Just enough room folr the mechanism to work and not rattle against the cage

gmb129.jpg

So since I knew where the seats are and the slope--I went and bent up a rear cross bar from B to B pillar and the newly cut hole in the fenderwell gave just enouhg room to get the tube in and rotate it to its proper location...

With that done the front cross tube from the door bars was easy since I knew the slope. Then I cut up some bars that the seats will mount to. In the past with this style of seat I had the bars hug the base of the seat--but chose to run them out a lil more for future suspension seats if dale chooses to without alot of redoing tube work..

Ok after a lil bit of a well deserved break from the shop stuff its time to get back at this lil bugger....

Ok so prior to getting back to it I had cut/drilled the plates for the seats. I have never been a fan of using those universal seat adjusters. I have always looked at them as a weak link..

So what I did was make the seats movable--by unbolting them of course(I will be putting studs in the seats for ease of moving them/lining up the holes).

So the drivers seat has 5 positions from full forward to full back with the passenger having 3 (figured why not).

But in any case here is how they turned out.

gmb133.jpg

gmb134.jpg

So here is how the seat will look in the full forward position--perfect for the lil guy to drive it around---and try to see if dad can follow,lol..

gmb135.jpg

So I grabbed the tilt column gibby had dropped off (out of a car) and cut the lower mount off and kinda threw it into a rough position.

gmb136.jpg

After looking and measureing---this column just isn't going to work. Its too long and the width below the steering wheel is going to really be in the way.

At this point I am pondering just doing a straight rod style column--kinda like you see in a tubular rig. That way we can make the wheel removable for ease of getting into the rig, a better angle on the shaft and more leg room behind the wheel..

OK , I'm glad you brought this back to the forefront. I have a line on a 1985 CJ transmission and transfercase along with both drivelines. I know that they were working but I couldn't get to it to get a look at what they were. The engine was already out and the previous engine size has just slipped my mind but I know that it was about the same as what we're putting in this one.

Do you or anyone else know what transmission/transfercase combo came in the 1985 CJ?

It's already mated up and we'd only need the bellhousing to match up to the engine this way.

Throw me a toyota or chev question :redneck:

Can you tell if its a 4 or 5 speed?

I'm good with a tube style column and removable wheel. Makes a lot of sense looking at that pic.

Jackson's going to be bigger than me anyway....

No, but I will find out. It was dark and I was at a birthday party at his house. He bought it with a full fiberglass body and it's been sitting in his yard doing nothing for at least 5 years now.
