Pretty sick Rockwell buggy. Would probably buy it if I had the money. I would have to swap out the 4.3 though.

26K? wyatt, what did you give for yours?

For the record, Wyatt got a great deal on his....I prefer it for the weight of the axles versus this one, HOWEVER, that ia a bad-ass rig. I love all of his creations.

agreed on all accounts, but with a gen III all aluminum v8 and upgraded shafts, I feel that what wyatt's is worth and what he's asking is still disproportionate. Meaning he needs to come down about 5 grand on his. You seldom get out of it what you put into it, especially a cj based stock rock having 4.3 vortec run of the mill rig. I am fully aware of the amount of nice ass fab that Jims put into this. it is a kickass rig on all accounts and I hope you don't think I'm taking away from the rig. I'm saying that used rigs with THESE parts don't always bring the big bucks (20K plus IMO)

Nolen, I'm going to need to you send me a sworn & signed affidavit to that effect to provide my wife with. :flipoff1:
Mine was less than that, and yes, I would say I got a fair deal.

I liked that rockwell'd buggy in Crawl when they featured it. It looks much smaller than 115"wb. But effectively stock rocks, with steelbeadlocks, airshocks and a 4.3. Sorry don't see $26k, $20-22k, or maybe I'm disconnected with reality. For that kinda jack where is some bling, just a little bit. And anything with expanded metal anywhere on it gets a $2-4k discount right up front. I hate that ****, its looks like ****, and does what? What does it accomplish, that 1/8" lexan, or sheet aluminum, or the cool perforated aluminum wont accomplish. Or **** what about the sheet steel thats perforated. Not expanded metal, puke! And a 2k winch on the back? What are you going to do with that? Winch Barbie Jeeps?
Dont read this and think I'm shredding this buggy and its junk, far from it, this thing is full on sick and would do just about anything Joel would throw at it. But for $26k......I would say thats a bit high of a number. But you know with the buggy shortage out there, it will probably sell in a couple days for that asking price.

**** kelly beat me too it, I was busy typing and trading. Dooh. What Kelly said^^^

For that money I would go for the Shaeffers BTG buggy thats out there right now for $25k.

I mean seriously look at this thing.

And I thought I was the only one that felt that way. I absolutely HATE expanded metal on a rig. It makes be want to kill kittens.

I agree 100%... its run of the mill outside of the chassis. ( the chassis isnt run of the mill but there are multiple versions of it and more to come Im sure..) You'd have to be a bit foolish or just really want that style of rig with that chassis to pay close to the money asked.

That sad, badass if he gets what he's asking for it. Takes alot of man hours to build something like that and those that have the bank and are willing to spend for a rig right now, only makes it more worth all the time and money spent by all of us doing it thumb.gif

FWIW, it has two front rockwells that were narrowed 7". That allows him to carry one spare which covers all four corners. I hear what you guys are saying about not have a ton of high dollar parts but this rig is incredibly capable.

Tires are getting bigger and obstacles are getting bigger. Unless you're dodging cones I'm convinced that wheelbases will be getting bigger too (and rear steer will be more popular). They just do so well on waterfalls or any 12' ledge.

Really? I'm the opposite of that view. I dont see 130" wb rigs becoming the norm. I still see 104-110 being the sweet spot. I mean I'm 100" and I'm going to cut my buggy in half and stretch it 6"s next winter.
And as for rearsteer on everything. Laugh at me, but I'm considering selling my rearsteer axle, and going with a straight axle for simplicity, and less chance of breaking. I don't see the need to complicate it that much. There is very few places where you absolutely need Rearsteer. Yeah its a nice luxury to have sometimes, but does it justify lugging all of that extra weight around. The weight additional wieght of the axle isn't much, its the ram, and then lines full of hydraulic fluid that really add wieght on.

Sorry, I just dont see it.

I checked out your buggy,a nd we are very comparably set up. You sure everything is going to be getting longer?

I dont see long dong buggy's being the norm either, I like the 1teens are for larger trail rigs, you get around 120 and it just doesnt belly worth a damn and you cant manipulate tight stuff as easily. To better either of those issues, like you say, rear steer but to clear belly at that kind of WB you gotta have a tall ass rig.

I tried a few different "trail" wheelbase's on the Turd from 125 to 118 to 115 with a variety of tire sizes and the 115 was great for trail riding and steep stuff. A nice compromise and made it "feel" a lot more nimble that it really was in tighter trails.

Im 109 and plan to stay right there. I've always kinda felt the 108 -110 mark was about as good as it gets with a 42" tire .

There are a couple of big rigs in my area and the just do so well. What I think takes extreme articulation and careful driving they just work their way through like it wasn't that big of a deal. What swallows my tires are a lot less interesting to 44"+ tires. This obstacle always gives me fits. I haven't made it yet but I'm looking forward to giving it another try on the 16th.

(Yeah yeah, I know I'm sexy in my helmet and the sticker my daughter put on there :flipoff1: )

Note: This looks steeper as I drive the next 2'. My front keeps going higher as my rear approaches the obstacle

On the other hand, Pat idles up it without any wheel spin. IIRC, bigwoody said it was too dug out that day and if anybody made it (after he decided it wasn't worth the possible carnage) that he was "the man".

With obstacles like that wheelbase make a huge difference. I know the TTC is kind of lame but their rock crawl portion does demonstrate that extra large tires can go a long way toward making something that requires a careful line on 37" tires easy for something on 54" boggers. What I think we'll see is that trail rigs and pro crawlers rigs will start to have less in common. If you take away the cones and the backup penalties and turn it into something that's about running AZ style waterfalls or east coast style hill climbs then wheelbase help a lot. The key time that isn't true is when it's slick. Tub rock demonstrated that this weekend. (I've become convinced that I would have made it that day.) On the other hand, the small and light crowd has ignored the fact that big and long (Cole) was the only rig to make cable hill. Videos don't do cable hill justice but I just can't ram a 4' ledge at speed with 37" tires. I would have been denied on a slick day like that. (But I was fine when it was dry.)

As for me, I just stretched my wheelbase from 104" to 106.5". However, that had as much to do with getting the upper links to clear the harmonic balancer so I could set it up with more uptravel as it did with any wheelbase related performance gains. (I wanna go fast :D )

again, I see what his rig is meant for, how well it does, I was making the comments on the rig to show it was an upper teens buggy not a 25K buggy.
wheelbase, I like about 112. great on the trails, good to belly with. now, you go to aetna, you see buggies in the 20's, but they are meant to point at a straight up and down hill and lay it wide open. low and long. try that **** at a ROCK park. there's a happy medium, and if you wheel more than 1 spot, you want to be there. 106 is the bottom end for me and 117 is the top. I like 112 because its a great compromise of height/bellying, maneuverability, and handling at speed/anti-overbackwardsness laughing

Again it comes down to what you wheel what you want. I dont want huge tires that walk everything easy... no challenge in that to me. thumb.gif

I want a smaller rig than I had that is less effort to haul, store, deal with in general too laughing

My current rig is what Ive always dreamt of owning for the most part, Im stoked to finally be doing it.
