Pics of your shops/garages/specs






The first pics are of my new shop and house I just finished up building the others are my old shop I worked out of for a few years it is crazy to go from a 24x24 to a 40x60
 
You can buy them at any electrical outlet store they are 400watt light they are metal halo lights but they are around two hundred a piece with bulbs they work great the only down side is they take a few mins to kick on and if you cut them off you have to wait to cut them back on I also got mine off of Craigslist from a guy who rebuilds them they were like 55 a piece but if you don't want to bite he bullet on those big lights the cfl bulbs work great just takes a bunch of outlets they don't draw much voltage and a bright as hell
 
I have the Halos in my Body Shop and they suck we ended up putting the HO fluorescent in we had to take some of them down to install some equipment and I give them away

Do a lot of people do "skylights" like clear pannels for light during the day time ?

Love mine. Especially since I still haven't hardwired my shop yet. It's a 20x24 and I only have 2 skylights on one side of the roof.

This is middle of day, no windows, and both doors shut.

I built a 30 x 48 and my buddy talked me out of them due to leaks his has them and he said they leak over time and there's nothing u can do to fix it but take them out ..

I got a 10 year no questions asked warranty with my building, so if they last 10 years and then leak, they served their money's worth in those 10 years. I also don't figure I'll be living at my current residence by the time my 10 year warranty is up either, so maybe I never see any problems out of them. I'm sure you could also get them put in the eves or even a couple toward the top of the walls if your ceiling height is high enough. (I'm 100% against windows due to thieves.) That would keep them more out of direct sunlight, preventing as much weather damage.

I had sky lights installed in the building I just built. They are worth it. The old school lights are made out of fiberglass and deteriorate overtime. They use a poly material now and my builder says they are 10x better and more resistant to hail and deterioration. Time will tell.

Like muleskinner said I have buildings with them and without them they do let alot of natural light in but IMO I would not put them in a new building I would put some real good light fixtures in of some sort every body has different opinions on them

Just sold my house and have a contract on another house but need a shop.Looking at building a shop and womdering,Everyone with a 30x40-40x40 are you satisfied with your shop or would you have built bigger? 30x50-40x60

I'd prolly never go in my house if I had a 40x60 shop. That's around the size I want to build when I find one of those things with boobs that work and splits bills, that's worth keepin around.
