Just sold my house and have a contract on another house but need a shop.Looking at building a shop and womdering,Everyone with a 30x40-40x40 are you satisfied with your shop or would you have built bigger? 30x50-40x60

Mine is a 30x40 if I could do it over I would have done a 40x40 prolly but if/whenever I build another one it'll be at least a 40x60

This is 100% true. My little 20x24 is already getting cramped and I didn't have much of **** tool wise to put in it when I built it. It's only close to 2 years old.

The big thing is i have 2 rigs and my brother has one so there will always be 3 rigs in there at a time not to mention a lawn mower and pop's RZR. I want to make sure i have room for a lift and still not be cramped for space. But i also have to be able to afford to have it built as well. May start with a 40x40 and leave room for an additional 20x40 for when i have the funds.

What ever you think is a good size for you, just double it and that should be good for 5-7 years

Just bought a farm with 40 x 100 shop . Don't know the name of the building . Has one broke skylight anybody know where or what kind I can get to replace it ?

Mines 30x48 12 ft walls I'm very pleased with mine, just remember u can't ever have to much room.

Keep it in 3 ft increments and your metal will work out without having to trim

ie you use the same amount of metal on a 42x51 as a 40x50 (and you get an extra 142 square feet)

I did 30X40 with the 30' wide 40' deep, mainly for the bass boat because of it's length. I also did 10' walls- free span roof, wasn't considering a lift back in the day. If I did it all over again it would be 40' wide and at least 50' deep, and 14' walls. I did the insulation, sky lights and commercial roll up doors and would not change that for anything, on below 20 degree days in Ga. my shop will still be in the upper 40's, I have never had to winterize any of my boats. A mushroom propane deck heater will knock the chill off in it in a hour or so.

I built a 50x50, framed in an extra 12x12 door in the rear for future expansion. Its insulated, and seems to work pretty good for now.

The whole building is 60x90. 60x50 house and 60x40 shop area.

Any zoning or permit troubles with that set up? I was looking into doing the same up here but my county is ran by hippys that don't want you to live anywhere that doesn't have an HOA eventhough 90% of my town are crack heads or meth addicts
