Wyatt, I can totally see you feeling a lot of pressure, I don't envy your position at all. So quit fawking with your car and just learn to drive the damn thing :flipoff1:

Yeah the whole Sponsor thing is a joke unless you are a big ass name, even then it would suck to have all the added pressure. That said, any company that will help a guy like me out with parts discounts for this race is badass in my book. Winchline.com did that for me and I was blown away buy how much slack they cut me. I think that is cool and is all I could ever ask for. A break in parts cost is a huge help in prep for something like this. I am going to wheel, I do want to run Backdoor prior to the LCQ so I know the lines. I will run the LCQ balls out and hope I make it in, but there is a ton of experienced racers in the field.

What is the drama about sponsors you are talking about on PBB? I missed that/

Yep that's the difference between you and alot of guys. Also another reason I have alot of respect for top dogs like Brian Shirley. Although I know Brian wouldn't turn down a major $$ sponsorship, do you see him chasing paper and trying to live up to inflated promises made to sponsors?? **** no. He gets on the track and goes fast... that IS what this whole thing IS about... right?? I didn't think we were selling billboards...

Too many squirrels tryin to get a nut. laughing1

this kills me "what are we supposed to tell sponsors" **** save up your pennies..... Eat ramen instead of bitching about finding sponsors for a race you didn't even get in.... /rantoff molaugh

Thanks Rob, you are right some teams seem to be putting the "cart before the horse", they are chasing sponsors before they even close to placing. Im not looking for a huge sponsor that I have to haul the rig all over the country just to display it for them, I ALREADY HAVE A JOB! I would be glad to pimp someones product in return for some $$, dont get me wrong! I race because I love it. And now we are starting another chapter with Levi getting started. I cant wait to see what happens for him. We were in Colorado last week at a All for Fun venders showcase and the ARB guy already knew Levis name! Thats whats cool about doing what we do. For now I'm gonna do what it takes to go fast and be consistant, after 7 XRRA events this year I have yet to be out of the top 10. I do have some plactic from this year but have yet to win one, I've been clase 3 times this year. Mabey this weekend is my time!
Wyatt congrats on getting in the KOH race. Dave told me the reason he picked you was because of your presentation. Good job! Race hard enough to finish. Speed will come.

Its in the KOH **** talking thread dezert vs. rockcrawlers....

The smartass comment about dustin's RedBull deal was hardly the actual deal... I did get a good chuckle out of it though!!! The Websters gets some good bank to do what they are doing... They support their family off of it. I know the video production company they teamed up with is compensated as well. Red bull might just be so damn expensive because they do pay the top notch competitor/marketers in each industry to represent their brand.

I'm still chuckling over here at the Carnage guys... There's a huge difference between being PROFESSIONAL(like it's your job to race, not alot of that in this industry)... and "I wanna go race this lakebed in california dezert, will you give me a hundred bux for fuel---or beer" laughing1 ::)...

All that **** talking about sponsors and I forgot to thank Interco for the tires.... :flipoff1: my situation is a weeee bit different tho... laughing1 I truthfully am not in my end of it all for the sponsors... It's just gravy on my mashed 'taders.

Side note, I can't wait till Levi is old enough to whoop all those old fuggers' asses!!!!

Initially I could not believe the list of guys that did not get a spot, but I got one. Talk about pressure, pressure to make sure I do not let myself, or anyone that had enough faith in me to put me on that field in front of other better drivers. But then I stood back and thought, and thought, and thought. Believe me you can do a lot of thinking between Thursday when I found out, and a week later when the list was released. Yeah I looked that gift horse in the mouth, and wondered.
I think you've shown a lot of class since you've been selected and I'm sure you would have if you weren't selected. I'm glad you got in, you're easy to root for. I hope you win.

I think thats close to the slogan for Muchado's video on Triple Nickel "Road to the Hammers, a Cinderella Story" I hope everyone roots for us, we are the lil guys.

One thing that this all proves. Anyone can do this, its still attainable, if you want it, and you work for it, being on that top tier of competition in this sport is still attainable by the little guy, or rookie, or newbie. You can't say that about a lot of other motorsports, unless you are rocking million dollar pockets, and I wouldn't think you'd be a little guy if you were.
I think thats one thing that is so cool about how Dave and Jeff are handling this event. The picked trail riders, they picked fabricators, they picked desert guys, they picked racers of various levels of experience. They put longshots in the field. They put pros in the field. Its anyones game. I plan to finish, and if we finish strong then its just gravy. We're going to have a good time, and rock some rocks SON!

I got zero sponsors kicking in dough, and that is alright with me. Parts breaks help, I wont lie.
Hell RickyBPhotography can't even get paid by his employers, hows he going to hook me up. LOL Rob, you are as much involved as anyone in my efforts, and you dont even have stickers, same goes for my co-driver that has put in hours of labor for his shop "Vertical Limits Offroad" but no representation.

You know I'm a whore for pimping my friends, its free advertising Rob, Kelly get something so I can plaster it all over the side of the hood Kelly with scrape off when he rolls again this weekend.

I hooked you up with $2 worth of stickers! laughing1 I actually have some Muchado stickers left from way back, I can bring them to Attica this weekend if you'd like. thumb.gif

And dont forget the .42 cent stamp!

Yeah I'll pimp Rob he's been a huge help, give some to get some!

Oh snap, I forgot about the shipping costs I had. laughing1

Sponsors are very important to the industry. I think big money sponsors like Redbull, Monster, etc are gonna be what it takes to take rocksports to the next level. I don't want to see it get as rediculous as Nascar with it's sponsors, "here comes #555 mapax target kestun speedstick car of the last rock ledge", but I do think sponsors are what it takes to make it more "mainstream".

Couldn't agree more Ricky. We need outside of industry sponsors stepping in. Only problem, they want coverage for their dollars. How many people will see their advertisement on that racecar? Look around at the races, the spectors are just not there to draw big dollars. Additionally the venues are no where near metro areas where you would draw big crowds from.

These are good times for the sport, its in its infancy and it is and growing at an outpacing speed.

Better locations will help draw bigger crowds and thats what will draw bigger dollars to this sport.

Example: I loved the track layout at Hannibal, but for spectators is was horrible.

If you ran it like Monster Trucks you'd be golden.

Shannon Campbell gives Monster a great billboard......He's all over the media. Proven himself over time. Too many nOObs jumping in and on the "sponsor me" bandwagon. The smart racers know there is little/no money within the industry.... The others try and milk a couple hundred here or there with big promises.

I know several business owners that feel like they are always getting milked---or trying to be milked by competitors... Huge promises and no payout.

A friend of mine built a car for free as a title sponsor for a rig to promote his business. Was promised SEMA booth, Primedia coverage, CRAWL feature, even to be in my DVD's as well as 2 other video prod. companies laughing1 (thanks for the memo, I'll get on that).... Turns out the guy he built it for filed a CC dispute for $$ back on parts(shop had paid for and billed the guy on CC since he was building this thing on debt). Delivery was made prior to the CC dispute and final payment, the dude never ran anything more than a small ass sticker on the roof. ::)

Promises don't mean ****, even if they are on paper. Business owners know the game--they aren't retarded. The guy in the example above was in it for the wrong reasons. He was trying to market himself into a career of managing teams, etc. He was building his team off of a credit card, and when the card got maxxed and he couldnt pay he pulled some fraudulent bullshit. All those parts---paid for by the friend of mine---still floating around somewhere---hell probably sold on craigslist ::)
