Plastic racign seats - DON'T USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i watched the whole thing... at first i was like, that looked cool, but then i saw coolant spraying out of the chassis i was mostly concerned w/ it getting on them... i yelled out if they were okay, silence, so then i am bailing the **** out to get to them... ashley was showing signs of pain, so i went to her first, i had to MAKE her tell me something, i was like ARE YOU OK!!!! she got out that her back and neck hurt, i asked could she move her toes and fingers and got a yes for a head nod... well, as i am tending to her, i keep asking for jj to tell me something, i got a yes head nod out of him but then he started weezing for breath like in the movies where someone had there throat cut... i freaked the **** out, i wave over others and go to him, he finally spoke out that the breath was knocked out him, but he was ok.... i had my cell phone on me that day for no reason, i am usually paranoid about losing it or ****ing it up, it had no service, but a 911 call netted me three bars instantly, i coordinated w/ the operator and everyone was on the way.... scary to say the least, mind changing for sure.... i was wearing my motocross helmet and wont wheel w/o it as you never know what will happen....

I heard about this though jimmy earlier...
I'm glad you guys were not seriously hurt and I hope you both recover quickly.

Dang, one of my biggest fears when wheeling, is hurting a passanger. That is why I broke down and bought supension seats, and harnesses when I built my truck.
After seeing a couple of bad roll overs, I also bought a set of bicycle helmets I keep behind the seats, that will be put on when I say, if you want to ride with me.

I hope you both have a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Ashley is doing ok and on meds right now. There's going to be some more dr visits to make sure she is good.

You hadn't told me about your cell phone Jimmy, that's crazy. From no bars to 3 bars instantly, wow! That's good to know! And I can't thank you and everyone else who was there enough for helping us. I had had the breath knocked out of me before and I knew what was going on and was not afraid for myself. I knew I just had to relax and start breathing. I was most scared for Ashley because I knew she probably hadn't ever had it knocked out of her like that before and also that she had a bad back going into it. I was scared that she was hurting or seriously injured and I wasn't able to help because of having the breath knocked out of me. I've never been so scared in my life for someone I loved. I never want to experience that again.

My next buggy will have suspension seats, state of the art harnesses, pads on all bars, and we will have helmets for every obstacle. In addition to that, I may make Ashley get out for the crazy obstacles still!

Anyway, I'm going to bed now. Thanks again ya'll.

PS: If any fo the Harlan EMS crew reads this, I'm sorry I wasn't being very friendly or talkative on the way down the mountain. I was kind of preoccupied. But you all did an amazing job and I wouldn't wish for anyone else ot have been there!

Am I a sicko for wanting to see pictures of the buggy and Ashley?

No I think that pictures will actually help most guys see better what patooyee is talking about. However I highly doubt that anyone stopped to take pictures. But I think picutes of the buggy as it sits after the crash will help illustrate his point about the seats.

That is awsome that you two are gona be good after such a hard lick. thumb.gif

Doesn't really suck either that you had to cut your rig up. Now you can just build one that is safer and have a good excuse to do it.

I'll snap some pics of the buggy before I tear it down but my next day off won't be until next week.

How is ya'lls back feeling after its had a few days for it sink in? I know when I hurt my back its seems to always be worse the 3rd or 4th day after.

Mine is fine. Ashley is still hurting. We just got back from the dr. He sees nothing permanently wrong in the x-rays so he shot her up with some hi-test stuff that should help a lot.

WOW, seems they cut it in a manner that would be repairable ... maybe add some more structure here and there to the top but hell, sleeve it and Id still rock that UNIT :dunno:

From what I saw of the unit (even though it was dark) the damage is all over like shock towers, frame exc. Plus I think JJ has no plans of getting back in anything that is incapable of holding the seats that he wants.

JJ thanks for the pic's . This really shows a rig that other than what you cut looks like any other role that we have seen. Really shows how much these seat lack in saftey. Glad to hear that you are ok and wish Ashely the best thumb.gif.

The cage was fine after the roll. Not a dent or bend in the actual cage. If I wanted to fix the cage it would be ready to roll. The only reason the cage was cut was to get Ashley out safely and easily. Like Jimmy said, all the damage that I am unwilling to waste time fixing is in shock mounts, front clip, motor mounts, etc. Juts a bunch of bent tubing that I don't care to fix. Also like he said, that buggy is designed around the plastic racing seats. I've tried to put Corbeaus in before but they just don't fit. I'd sooner never wheel again than wheel in those plastic seats.

I'm with you there. Those things make my back hurt just sitting in them in the shop.

Now if someone would just come out with a waterproof suspension seat with a mud drain hole in the bottom.

That doesnt get 2,000 deg. when in the sun like my vinyle seat do.
