Project "Just another yota"

After I finaly managed to get the dumb sheets off the framerails I discovred the next super briliant thing they had done. Welded in 4 extra body mounts

This was the last straw with this bed so off it came so I could better deal with the monstrosities hidden underneath.

So long as the bed was off I decided that this would be a great time to do the rear suspension. Swaping to wagoneer "realy long" leaves in the rear.

Here's the old suspension. Ad a leaves and blocks, oh boy!

So out it all came in a storm of impact wrenches, dryed mud and bolts:D

Now I had a blank frame in the rear I whipped up some front hangers for the springs. I use 3/16 plate as 1/4 is overkill.
the plate underneath is 2":D

And after a quick measurment I had them welded in. The wagy springs were only 1/4" diferent from the center pin to spring eyelet in the rear so lucky me:clappy:

I got 2 sets of very basic shackles with the parts for the truck and I actualy managed to use one set in the rear after making a sleve for the factory toy bushings to drop the hole size down to 9/16. Here's how the rear suspension turned out.

It's a upper shock mount! oh boy!:cheer:

Here's how the shocks turned out in the rear. I think there a little long but they should work fine without too much bottoming out.

HOLY CRAP! It actualy looks like a truck again:; And looks significantly better with 37" IROCs under it.

After seing it a 100 times on Yotas I still do not understand the reasoning behind mounting shocks at that angle in the rear?

I played around with trying to mount them more strait up and down but The main reason was they just plain dont fit under the bed any other way. Sure I could have gotten real creative and made them diferent but I dont think the owner would have liked being charged 5 hours labor to mount the rear shocks. And they work just fine mounted at a angle. Gives you more rear suspension travel:haha: :haha: :haha:

Just my personal experience, But i bottomed the wholy hell outta my shocks mounted like that. I ended going to some way shorter shocks and mounted em closer to vertical. Any spring in the back of a toy does not flex enuf to need that much shock travel.

All of the cool kids cut the bed and make a hoop so they can mount the long travel shocks vertically. Less body roll too:stirpot:

Yes, I told the owner that he would need shorter ones. He gave me 4 identical shocks for the truck so I made them work. And toys definatley never get much travel in the back no matter what leaves you use. Only way to get twist is a link suspension:stirpot: that's next for me...
