They never said we would be able to do anything but SEE what is going on. He also stated that we would be able to TELL them what we thought I don't remember seeing anything or hearing anything more than that

He clearly stated its going to depend on "volunteer" work to get things moving on the ground. Its this aspect of it thats going to speed up the process to getting it opened up.

Did you get that wiper paper on the agenda? Read the second page in the middle under "how can I get involved". Its all clearly stated there.

They were taking volunteer names at the sign up stations in the back to help with Construction as well as Repair work. You are correct about "Forest Watch" as I got the same answer from everyone including DNR-Ron, that they don't really have a program anymore per say. Did you sign up for the construction or Repairs? It sounded like that got you on the list to help while it's closed and even before they have their plan they need help fixing more water crossings in areas not in the ORV part.

Yes i signed up for both it seemed to me like it was more of a hey come out look at what we are doing kinda work party if you know what i mean

It may be a by district area.

The San Juan district (Walker Valley) had (has?) a well established forest watch program.

Tahuya also has one.

Honestly, I was suprised mike said they are calling this a flagship deal. From everythign I've read/heard so far it sounds like Reiter is in Tahuya's shoes 10+ years ago.

Sounds like the DNR isn't talking to itself. Again. It almost sounds like they are getting ready to re-invent the wheel.

no they didn't have any or i didn't see them when I came in. I signed my name on the mailer list at the front desk might have missed that. But the way he sounded he didn't sound like we where having much to do with it and yes I listened to the whole meeting.

2) Who said it's up to the users to make it anything? A consultant is going to be hired which has not gone out to bid yet.
3) Who said anything about reopening in April?
4)Nobody said anything is up to the users.

x2 This is exactly what I got out of the meeting. They said they would reevaluate reiter in April. Never said anything about it reopening. They havent even started on hiring someone for the trail building project. But I do agree if the DNR ever gets there plans straight the the end users will need to volunteer to get it reopened.

If I had my scanner working I would scan it. But its there in black and white and clearly states about volunteer work. From restoration to trail construction.

I was talking to a dirtbike rider and he showed me on the map some of the trails he rides on. I told him the DNR does not own all the land and asked if he had permission from the landowner. He just gave me a blank stare. I suggested if he wants to ride where ever, when ever, he should buy his own property. He walked away.

:haha: NICE! It seems we have some uninformed 2 wheelers around just like the 4 wheelers that thought the tree money went outta state.

I had a nice conversation with someone about the bike bridge that was 1/2 gone and falling apart and was removed by the closed camp area before the Rock Garden. He kept saying it was still fine until we came and destroyed it and put up fences to keep people out and left A fencing label on the ground. After all the work we had done that weekend he was complaining about 1 pc of trash that got missed.


Duck, How did you guys get the bikes to see that they need to work WITH you and not against? Are the bikers up there Stumpjumpers or mainly another group? Just curious....

Mark addressed this at the Sustainable Recreation meeting in Burlington. They are very interested in aggressively reactivating it again.

I also heard the same thing at the same meeting:awesomework:----you see, DD had known about the Forest Watch Program before most of us were a twinkle in our daddy's britches...:haha: And it was Mark who had talked about re-instating it/aggressively promoting it....

No basic first aide or criminal background check requirement that I know of.

Just taking a one day class that goes over the basics of how not to get shot and how to use DNR radios if you get to have them.
