RMVB or FMVB

RADesign stopped making shifters for the TH-350 and the 400. I got the last one he had last year. He said there just wasn't the demand for them. He did tell me he has all the parts and probably would make one for someone if they called.

Here's another question. We have a FMVB in the Tennessee Mojo buggy and Jessica finds that she is usually attempting gnarly obstacles in 1st. So for her, if she needs to grab reverse she's in the furthest gear away. Any tips to make it easier to get from 1st to R in a FMVB. She's running the Winters shifter. I gotta give her credit, I've seen her make a couple saves shifting that thing through the gates standing on two wheels. I would have rolled for sure.

Chris did this mod to mine (when I posted above about my buggy having it). I trimmed the tab between 1st/2nd so it's easier to get around it and he installed the radesigns detent mod so it centers the shifter so it's even easier to get around the gates. it's less effort side to side when shifting forwards/backwards..

I'm still not clear on the design intent of the center detent. You stated that it makes the Winters shifter easier to shift. Does the detent eliminate all of the side to side movement of the lever? If the lever is centered, how does it move past the gates?

it auto centers the shifter so the side to side movement is less to get around a gate. it still stops at each detent, but it should make it easier to get around a full gate. I haven't tried it yet, but chris has a vid of it and it looked pretty smooth.

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining. I would be interested to know how much of an improvement it makes. If you get your hands on that video and can post it here, I would really like to see it.

not the one in my buggy, but I think this is his. you can see the gates have not been trimmed yet and watch how the shifter "springs" to center when he lets go. my vid was similar

I have done this trimming on 2 of mine like this, 2nd-3d, and I wouldn't have one any other way. Yes, it is almost too easy, but it works. Do it and talk about it later.

I have reverse pattern, but I went with a b&m shifter this time, and modified the gate for reverse slam. I always had art Carr previously
 
On my Art Carr I have used the reverse rock gate pattern. I just cut the tab between 1st and second. If the shifter was pushed right it could bang reverse from anywhere. If pulled left it would catch 1st before hitting N by accident if you were downshifting while getting rowdy. Best I have used to date.

I run a Hurst Quarter Stick with the reverse lockout removed. Pull the grip to engage all gears, but locks out park and 3d unless the grip is pulled and with the RMVB in the transmission, I can go from 1 or 2 to reverse without pulling the grip. thumb.gif

A reverse mounted rmvb with tapered gates works well for me. Pull back to back up push forward to go forward.

Yeah i keep the standard pattern cause i will burn up a rmvb trans. The brain i claim couldnt handle that.
