Roll Cages

Hey Erick, I know Tom can get you done, and get it done right.

No matter what you do, expect to fork over at least $1000 for a good CORRECTLY DONE cage.

I did my own cage, figuring to save money. After it was all said and done, I was out just under $1K that included renting a tubing bender at $25/day, the price of the DOM, all the little nickel and dime stuff (Fasteners, grinding wheels, food for folks helping me, etc) and then paying a good welder to do all the finish welding once I got all the tube bent up.

A good, properly done cage can and will save your life. The worst time to find out that you halfassed your roll cage is when you are upside down in your rig.

Weight is the same as are most other characteristics. The only difference is the DOM is cold worked which makes it a touch harder. In theory a touch more brittle but not enough to matter.

You just proved what I been sayin for years. Holy fawkin ****!!! Holy ****in high priced ****!!!:puke::puke::kissmyass::kissmyass::puke::puke:

Now I know why I get so many folks in for bumpers and cages that checked you out first.:haha::haha:

You must be booked a year in advance!:awesomework:

people charge what they charge.... Plain and simple.

But lets keep this on topic as these kind of htreads ususally spark some decent tech

thank you (I have already removed some bullshit)

I saw that, but as far as building a custom cage, what's the difference $ per foot? Also, are the bending characteristics the same?

1.50 - 2.00 a foot difference.

If you are using an armstrong bender you will like the HREW:beer:

okay then my bro wants an interrior cage for his toy, it's a dune runner mostly, small blocked, cut boggers, doesn't do much crawlin just high speed dune runs/climbs/jumps/ mud holes ect.. would a cage made out of hrew work just fine for his app?

Art Morrisons NHRA LEGAL Pro street cages are HREW.

They hit walls at 200mph, plan on rolling fast?:corn:

Andy (AMJ) did the cage in my flatfender (see "pokeys rebuild") all told is was about $1600. for a very well built cage that I have complete faith in. The 1.,5 x 120 wall DOM was about 600.00 and the rest labor and misc. He also made a nose bar and the spare tire rack. very happy with all of it. :cheer:

and you also get what you pay for

Brad, I know we go back and forth about price and quality. Find one of my customers that say my work is half assed, or not worth the money. You have seen the tube work Matts Chevy, what did you think of it? You always bring up the same weak, untrue BS about me.

Exuberantly happy customer of Coreys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!here. :awesomework:Ive seen alot of work come out of alot of guys shops around here and the top of my list is corey. Next in line would have to be dean at Bent Metal, and both are pricey and both are busy and both are worth every penny!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a cage for my last wheeler that we built together.
Picture065.jpg

He did some of the welding. I dont have any close ups. He also built a yj just like mine in a couple weeks and did a cage, and alot more for that guy. Then there was the dakota that the guy ran out of money on. Oh and robins buggy redo he finished. All these projects he did at a fair rate and lost money on most of them because of his generousity. He also was asked to weld on my rock slider/steps on my suburban and went above and beyond on the job. cleaning and painting the frame where he welded. Oh dont forget when I brought him my 78 f250 one ton extended cab with a broken rear d60. I hired him to install a ring and pinion. He replaced the carrier bearings, diff cover, u-joint, painted the driveline, cleaned out my diff housing, and I think rebuilt my powerlock. Bill was $150. I cant say enough good about him. On top of all that he helps more people selflessly on a regular basis. Ive lent him my one ton yj several times(only guy I ever would and would ever lend a wheeler to) and whenever I got it back it was always in better shape. Brad I dont know you but how many people can say such nice things about you? Just my .02c on the topic of corey. I concider him a true good lifelong friend. (barb too) great people. Sorry no up close weld pics. he has some to show anyone who questions his work.

Brad, we get along good on the trail, but not on the computer. Meanwhile people are trying to shut down the places we go wheeling. You should direct your negativity at them, not me.

When I criticise your builds, it is because I want to see you do better. People criticise my junk too, and I really examine what they say, and make changes if necessary.

There are tons. They just are not Web Wheelers. I dont get along so well with internerds.

:haha: and yet here you are:haha: Just the other day someone (yes you) was telling me to spend more time off of the computer and yet here your are with 4.75 posts per day and me with a measly 4.44 post per day:eeek:

I got tons done today and even played with the crawlers this afternoon. Even put a nice shiny new bed on the beater shop truck. :cheer:
Been getting my ass kicked doing a powersteering bracket for the second time though!

The only people I knew on here when I signed up I knew from the woods not the internet.:redneck:

Im starting to develope a "Rich" kinda problem:haha:

So after putting together all the tech from this thread, all cages should be built of chromoly, Tig welded, and cost under a grand....... Alright got it.
