Roll Cages

Good topic. The crappy cage in my CJ needs to be replaced very soon with something better designed to protect the rear seat. Can't decide if I should buy a JD2 and build it myself or just pay someone else to do it. By reading some of the prices on here so far, it sounds like it would be in the $1500-ish range to have it done. Pretty tempting...

I'm thinking 1 3/4" HREW will suit my needs just fine.

Talk to Dean at Bent Metal Customs, he's in Puyallup and does a really nice cage.

darius, can you post a detailed, firm quote? How about S&N, Pat, Crash, B.J., AMJ, there are other people on here that do this stuff. I threw out a price with details, where is everyone else?

TIG is better for welding in a vehicle with an internal rollcage, when the weld joints are tucked in close to the windshield glass, cloth seats, plastic and vinyl interior of a 4runner, there is a high chance of weld splatter from MIG welding to do damage. And yes, chromoly tubing would be best, but it cost @$10 per foot, out of the price range for most people.

Last four runner I quoted was for a basic interior cage at $1500, 1.5x.120 dom, mig welded and painted.
I get dom for such a good price I find no reason to even stock hrew, so all our tubework is dom.
Most of the 4x4 cages we do are mig welded, for those that want to pay the extra they are tig welded. We do a lot of harness bars, hoops and cages for the drag race and road race crowd and they are usually tigged.

All of my cages have been done by Pat down at Those Guys Rod and Customs. Lucky for me he is in my town, his prices kick the **** out of the competition, his tubework is flawless, and his welds are very professional. Wouldnt hesitate to have him do any cagework on any future projects. He is top knotch in my book.:awesomework:
