SAS questions

chevies:puke:

if i were to do it again... i would build a toy rear leaf pack from the 91+ trucks that have the 51" spring. they keep the rig low and the extra length makes it flex a bit better. waggies are nice... chevies are just rock hanger garbage, imho.

No other imput?

Chevies in the rear?

Rears up front?
Don't go chevies...if you don't want to spring for new springs(no pun intended :haha:) then find some waggy rears or maybe build some customs using a 98+ Tacoma leaves

um...can someone tell em why not TOYOTA leaves in the rear?
or at the very least, leaves MEANT for a toyota? seems like the obvious choice..to me:eeek:
arent there some longer ones out there? all pro? or marlin? i know someone makes some...

Hard to get 4 or 5 inches of lift with stock parts though.
Don't think stock springs will clear 36 inch tires....

Thats my worry.

The waggy springs are the 44044 springs right? will those work for rears?

I need the lengths on them?

I've seen too many broken stock Tacoma springs to advise this---1/2 dozen or so. (all of them broke right at the center pin....on stock trucks...)

Ive never even considered using them due to how flat they are.

They were a worse spring than pretacoma. IMO:D

New Question

moving the axle fwd, what do I do with the body mount? cut to move rear shackle fwd? or what? The front should be easy enough but I am curious about the rear.

Thanks for the imput its helping me redefine my shoping list and what parts I am gathering.

I don't have time to answer all teh questions in this thread but this one is easy... to avoid messing with the body mount I use 3rd gen springs.. they are longer to the back so the shackle can stay in the normal position while the axle goes farther forward....

As far as you had asked about shackle length I built 5" shackles and mounted the frame tube higher in the frame so it only hangs down about as far as a stock solid axle shackle but I get the smooth movement of the long shackle just none of the effects of it hanging down hitting things.

Nevada yes ifs and solid axle frames are shaped differently. Solid axle frames have an arch over the axle and ifs frame are flatter from just behind the front body mount to just ahead of teh motormount on the frame so the torsion bar clears. A 2wd frame is identical to a solid axle frame due to the torsion bars being mounted under the frame.

having said that I don't ever plan on using a 4x IFS frame again.... The 2wd frame has about half the **** to take off for a SAS. :D

Wanna bet? :redneck: I'm running the top 3 leafs from a stock 3rd gen pack with the bottom 2 leaves out of a stock front leaf pack and I'm clearing 44's... :D

nevada you're close enough to me that if you want to build a set of packs I have all the lifted leaves you could ever want to put in there.. hell I have a set of skycrapper 7" fronts if you want to build a monster truck... :hahaha:

How much fender do you have left with 44s?

I was looking at a set of 3rd gen truck srpings and they where almost flat from what I could tell, there would not be much lift from the looks of them?

Has anyone else used 3rd gen springs in the back?

A guy on here named Anthony has a stock suspension Toyota with 36" Swampers, looks and works great.

Ok, great, 36's and 44's with no lift.
With how much body left?
Eric has a 4runner, and plans on keeping it mostly weather-tight.
so you can't really cut the fender clear up to the windows.

I think I am going to go to PAP this weekend and see what I find, and I may just buy anything that is close to the right dimensions and has decent arch to it.

looking at ford ranger springs and things like that.

~57 inch or so then build a pack and see what happens.

My eyes are hurting from reading pirate for the last 4 hrs, and I still dont know much more.
