Serious Discussion about the Forums

P said:
Thats no reason to punish or exclude members. Not everyone has the capacity or freedom to be online daily . In this case, there was no rush needed to make a decision either. Just my .02

I was bored. ;D

I think asking the forum members wouldn't have been a bad idea, but I didn't think this was a club issue so I figured the three Admins are the only ones who needed input. I'm going to give the poll another day or so and if everyone's agaisted it I can change it back in 10 minutes. dunno

Issue. it's not allowing me to "cname" the domain. It'll only let me redirect. The difference is:
Redirecting allows you to type in www.hardlineforums.com and come to the index, however the URL shows it to be www.hardlinecrawlers.com/forums still
CNAME renames all the pages and the URL shows up as hardlineforums.com. This shouldn't mess with people's bookmarks as hardlinecrawlers.com/forums is still live, the redirect is kinda the other way around now. Make sense or no?

No, I would prefer the first option. I can always get Wayne to suggest a solution as he is in town this weekend for WOW.

Don't remember by-laws ever discussed. I have written them in college and will never do it again. If you want to do it then have at it.

I'll do it. We only need one by-law.

By-Law 1: There will be no By-Laws.

See easy :flipoff1:

*** WE NEED TO DISCUSS AS A CLUB ***

The seperation between club and forum. You wanna seperate them or not... pros and cons of doing so?

Matt, RickyB myself, Wyatt, Kelly have had alot of PM -a -thon going on on this matter and with the current forum growth. I think we'd be wise to get on the same page collectively on it.

For some reading material here's a long as pm I got from Wyatt Id like to share.

I think that the Club Members fully support their board and all that is has come to be. They use the forum just as it is used today. They have a "Club Members Only" section which woulld fit the bill for anytihg private that club members need.

I think the split, tear, riff if you will is the seeming thoughts of the club supporting the website but trying to distance themselves from it.

I do not see the difference of making the public domain of hardlineforums for public use vs. the hardline crawlers which is already in use.

I think the tools and assets that the Club has are already at their finger tips, and setup. If the club wants to make some money they could be selling to support their website and club via internet sales of merchandise. If there is such a problem with that then I am at a loss of words. Add "Wheeling Club Member" to the sleeves or something to designate. I think the club members should also have different Signatures or what have you on there posts that states "Club Member" or something similiar.
I understand the wants to seperate or stand out from the masses. All the tools are there, take advantage. But dont go and try to setup another site and distance yourselves. Embrace and take it to the next level.

As far as clowns ripping off the logo, or printing stickers for their mudwhompers. Thats going to happen no mater what. I would think it would happen less if you have a public setup such as the current forum. Whoever the mudwhopper is they will feel they belong, and the club members wont feel like they are being ripped off. As for an assclown rolling your logo and being an assclown. **** that could be me. Maybe it is. With the road you guys are going down. An open forum that is at 175 members and growing daily you are going to have some bad apples. I dont know that you can weed them out. Embrace them, take their money, and then scare them off by ignoring them. They'll find the next big thing they want to be involved in, in a few weeks.

Paul, what I'm trying to say is you guys have everything already at your disposal to really launch this board to another level. Sorry i see Camo and Lance drunk at SEMA suckling off the Pirate4x4 tit, and you guys could get a long ways towards that if you play your cards right and make savy decisions. WHat those decisions are is up to you all.

I believe you are greatly handicapping yourselves by trying to uncouple the club from the website/forum.

Hope thats clearer than mud. Like I mentioned before, I dont have a dog in this fight. However, I am smart enough to identify the resource you guys are sitting on.

I just sent you a check for $295 for selling some hoodies. The hoodie order started when there was approx. 90 members.
Had you not taken 3, and me 1, there was damn near $400 in profit for no kidding not much work at all.

You guys market this thing right, and you can make some good coin. Not saying your in it for the coin or even suggesting how your club would split it up. But just saying you guys are gaining market share fast and you need to realize that. Its only going to magnify as time goes on. So you guys need to take some steps to decide how you are going to go forward. At somepoint you'll probably need to start charging memberships to the website to help pay for the bandwidth, this **** aint free.

I just see you guys have a great opportunity, and want to see you position yourselves to take advantage of it. With little to no more work you guys can have the premiere Go To Site for South East wheeling.

We can talk this over beers in April!

And holy crap I just typed a lot.

Wyatt

Matt, The only thing I request is that if you need to make a decision post it leave it up and leave it for 24 hours and give the rest of us non-web wheelers a short period of time to check the board. I have been checking been checking on a more regular basis at night. Too busy during the day trying to make money to check. If you send a PM to everyone it will pop to my email and in return pop to my phone and I can get back to you quick. More than likely I will not care but Since I am a paying member to have this site I would like to know its direction and our intentions.

Ricky is changing back the boards.

On the subject P posted about, we really need to ride this wave of momentum and take the forums and club image to the next level. Please weigh in with opinions and thoughts, so we can gauge the reaction from you guys. We decided to focus on the club to get it started when we last had this discussion. Months back I did not think this site would be where it is now, so that leads me to change my thoughts about previous decisions we made on the members vs non-members logo. I think to take the forums to the next level merchandise is the way. We just need to decide how to distinguish a member vs a non-member? Maybe go with John's idea of member being on the swag? Let's hear it guys.

i think " member" on the swag would be killer..

Lets focus to speed this up as Matt said, ride the momentum we curently enjoy. Shirts and Coozies, with MEMBER

thoughts ( Im going to call Dollar and Ill ring a ling Brennan,.... if Joe hasnt responded by the time Im online in the morning Ill holla and get him to weigh in. We should be able to have a decision on this Id say late tommorow Sat morn very latest... )

thanks yo Im out until the morn, if oyu need me hit the house this evening Ill be there 648-1428

We could also reserve the black shirts for members only, as we just had those made. Going forward we could do "member" on all batches of shirts we order regardless of color. I think the coozies are small enough that they could be a one size fits all deal. I also think the stickers should be for MEMBERS ONLY because the rigs are much more distinguishing than our person. I think we make it a policy to not allow others to make their own stickers and swag, we need to control that. If we find out about somebody doing it we should come down on them and make it known that it is not tolerable.

Prics on the SS Shirts is $8, LS is $11, Coozies are $1.75. We could mark all shirts up by $4 and a similar margin on the coozies. This gives us money to put into the site, and whatever other causes we see fit.

Black only for members is a great idea.

"Did he have "member" on his shirt...- i don't know" vs "was his shirt black?" 'nuff said. ;D

Cool idea John :flipoff1: I like that we don't offer black to non-members and that we when do orders for other color shirts members get them for cost (given) and the word member is on the sleeve or other prominent area. Maybe the front pocket? Wordsky

Joes been on line, Im gonna assume he didnt even look here.

I left B a message on his VM

Ill call dollar in a moment ( on the phone for work at the moment )

I would like my member to be on the shirt the only thing is not real sure that people will be able to see it.

Good work I like all the ideas. Keep it up!!

Lets get money!! Daddy needs a new pair of shoes!!

I don't give a **** either way, I busy and don't check in very often.
John, I like your by-laws!
