Which Ram should I get? My steering is the only big part that I still haven't bought yet. I keep bouncing back between single and double ended rams. Every one says go with PSC because of there customer service, but I think there rams look like ass. POS is hard to get in touch with and cost a good bit more. So what do you guys think? Anyone know anything about the comp single ended ram that PSC sells that his Chrome and red? That one looks pretty good.

Also what kind of Coolers are yall using? I think I am going to go with Setrab.

I called them about the comp ram, basically if your not running a rear engine lightweight they say DO NOT use this ram as its underpowered in a front engine application. ie.. its very purpose built, rear engine use only.

Biggest problem I see in the DE is the damn mounting clamps... you'd think after all the failures they see form this they'd do it up proper like on the mounting arangement.

I went back and forth alot and chose to go with ol faithful SE from PSC, I think its tough to beat for the $$ and at the time I didnt want to drop more $$ on steering arms just yet . with hi steer tierod and a bash guard my steering will be WAY up high and alot les weight than a DE setup with protection. thumb.gif

I've got a Howe double ended Ram unit on mine and have been pretty happy with it other than the resevoir has leaked under the cap before. As for the steering itself, it has been turning my 44"s pretty well, without any problems. When I called them about my cap problem, Randy Howe called me and answered my questions and was very helpful. I would go with them again when I build another buggy. thumb.gif

My PSC system burps and gets on the header errr now and again , it kinda makes me laugh, but i really do need to move the resy or do something about it.

I'm going with howe double ended ram and all the goodies. Howes double ended rams have 4 mounting clamps that are resesessdeded into the ram it can't move under normal conditions. Machine wave hooked me up on my setup for nearly the cost of PSC.

Cole this is one area that is hugely important and I would go with PSC. I had an all PSC system on my TJ and I love it, the system on the buggy is all Howe (minus the farm ram) and I am not happy with it. I have replaced the farm ram with a SE PSC Big Boy Ram and now the Howe pump is back at PSC getting rebuilt. I was not happy with the Howe stuff nor their service, they had me chasing lines and fittings, when that was clearly not my problem.

The comp cylinder is not for us, you will need a 2.5" bore ram whether you go double or single. You will also need a longer thow than 8" if you plan on running the 45 degree axles. The DE Ram has mounting clamp issues plus it costs more for the setup once you add the clevis ends, ram clamps and all the mini-tie rod materials in the mix. A SE Ram is easy to mount and allows you tons more options to get the cylinder where it needs to be. Much easier setup IMO. PSC has great service and they are better priced, they also stand behind their product if you need it. POS is a customer service nightmare and very costly, I would stay away from them and Howe.

Also don't waste your money on a high dollar pump, get a decent pump, huge heat shrink cooler like the DeRale and the biggest fawking resevoir you can use. It is all about fluid volume and keeping the fluid cool!

I've seen the 4 clamp systems but didnt know who had them , Scott is the **** as a vendor too, he kills prices on everything man !

If I had Brads money I woulda gone this route too thumb.gif laughing1 I know Cole gots that money son!!

P. that picture is funny as hell because about 50 feet to the right is where I had the same thing happen and on the KOTH from 2 years ago they have it on their video trailer. My 15 minutes of fame up in flames. Burp and Burn. I still like my Howe set up other than that. thumb.gif

I would go with a POS double ended ram Just because I like their mounting better (and bling), Big PSC reservoir, stock P pump maybe modded some. Nothing Facy for a Cooler because the non hi dollar pumps dont produce as much heat. I know single ended systems can work awesome, I just like the DE ram because its balanced, so fluid isnt lost from the res. Plus not having a tie rod is nice.

How about dual SE rams?? :flipoff1:

I just ordered A Derale 15800 cooler. Its a 16 pass alum/copper cooler with fan and has AN-8 fittings. 10x16x4 7/8 w/fan

PSC is actually workin on a setup like that.

It's pretty rare to see a DE setup that doesn't stick out in front of the axle. I'd choose SE just for the packaging advantages along.

Personally, I run a cheap SE ram from Northern tool. I've replaced just about every pump, hose, and fitting since I bought my rig but the ram is perfect.

The key on cooler and all lines is not to get a cooler that reduces down to smaller fittings at the connectiion point. You want to keep the whole system flowing freely so use big ID lines and 6-8 AN fittings at a minimum

Thats why I got the derale. A AN-8 is roughly 3/8 i.d. .

I thought
-4 is 1/4 ID
-6 is 3/8 ID
-8 is 1/2 ID
-10 is 5/8 ID
-12 is 3/4 etc etc. :dunno: or is that all OD?

Looked at that on summit, thats very nice for the money. good thing its a tube and fin, I have heard not to use stacked plate coolers on hydro cause they restrict flow,
are you going to put the fan on a thermostat to kick on, or switch for it?

Sorry cole, not trrying to start a hydro cooler thread. at least this has to do with steering

Cole if you do go with a SE ram I do like the aluminum tie rod that the TN boys run.
