little more progress

we gots some bending to do.

Tie rod is ready until hydraulic system is purchased.

James i am off after friday for the next 8 days we will be in the shop, my cousin mike gets here sunday afternoon so drop by if ya want.

The weather was awesom wednesday and wheeling was great. had a little inner bead issue but that was it.

passenger side rear quarter shoulder bar. it drooped down a little towards the center of the vehicle and i didnt notice till yesterday. easy rotational fix by removing 6 tacks. you can actually see it in the front view picture above.

ohh and if you meant which bead the rear passenger inner.:fawkdancesmiley:

Alrighty, got a question for you about your rash rails. We were talking about a lenghtwise split of a same or smaller diameter tube, with a little crush zone between the 2 at the bottom. What do you think about using a piece of angle iron, point down, and just round out the edge a bit? (My Bro's rig needs some extra support where he's come down on some rocks pretty hard and we're trying to figure the best route.) Probably not as visually attractive as the tube, but aside from that... Lots easier than splitting a tube, with the tools I have.

im thinking it would work. what you are trying to accomplish is preventing dents or dimples in the tube, for the tube to bend it has to dimple first..

i wonder if you could order it split?

or talk your brother into buying a bandsaw...

There are more dimples in the tube now than a big lady's butt. I used a frame rack to pull the cage back down. I should have used a tow strap instead of chain. Each link dimpled the tube. It was 2" X .120 HREW...so pretty stout, but not so much anymore. I'm thinking the added strength of the 90 in the angle iron will really help secure it. I wil probably run it the entire 4 feet across the bottom of the bumper tube. worst case, it crumples again and I make another trip to the shop to have it yanked back down and come up with a better idea.

well well well welcome to the NW Wheelers board....DOM has twice the dimple resistence then HREW. but should at least help. besides its an exo they are supposed to be ugly..sorry couldnt resist.

No kidding. I was temped this time to do that, but it is such a small area of damage I will be better off reinforcing it and hoping for the best. Also, I think I will be dialing down my driving style just a little. It was a rough ride on the rubi last time.

i was thinking about this some and have not done the research yet but im assuming the dom gets it strength both from the round shape as well as the process. i wonder how much dimple resistence if split? you might be better off to just split and add a piece of DOM underneath all your impact points. what size did you use? the other thought is as a bumper the angle might tend to hang you up on a rock rather than slide off.

Start a new thread and ask in the general tech area. but be ready for flaming about the exo....:haha:

its a board thing up here if your new ya gotta have thick skin.
