The term "mudding"

muddin is newbie term where you take your dads SUV out and do donuts in a field and drive around town the rest of the day to show off the mud.

when i was in high school thats what we called it. exactly as stated above the object was to get as much mud on your truck as possible. to the point you couild no longer see the original color then drive around town to show off your mad skillz....ive learned a lot since then.

Most of the time i here the term "muddin" its form people who are out side the true wheelin comminity. The people in a stock toyota or ford ranger with AT on it splash through the mud and crankin the wheel, thinkin thats what its all about...

Thats how I see it...

I classify muddin and braffin as the same, and define it just as mydixiewrecked posted. I had never heard the term braffin until I was in a votec class with a bunch of snohomish, lake stevens, and monroe high school kids who wondered if I went "braffin" in my jeep :haha: When I hear the term I usually assume the person talking is uneducated and doesnt know what wheeling (how I refer to my type of offroading) is really about.

Now that this whole topic is not really on line anymore....

Mudding is a term for what used to be wet wheeling many years ago, now there is a bad politically incorrectness associated with that term, and no longer used much in the wheeling community in a warm and fuzzy way.
Just like logging used to be the term for what now is getting called selective harvesting to more please the environmental terrorists that spend millions of dollars to get the greenies to play with them.:stirpot:

it all comes from ignorance and perception of our sport and preference of conotation really, for instance; my foreman who's like 60 and never even owned a lifted rig thinks and says my super duty that has 35" bfgs is for "stump jumpin" and anytime that even 4wd comes up, thats all he ever has to say about it is you kids out there doin that stump jumpin...:looser:

Muddin is Muddin. If the media took it out of context or misused the term, so what?

Most folks I know, only know four wheeling as "mudding" or "boonie bashing" (never heard braffin before). They think folks go out and get as much earth on thier vehicle as possible. Just hammer down stuff. Which, don't get me wrong, can be lots of fun.

Most responsible four wheelers, go "wheelin". Some of us may like to play in the mud, but we still consider that wheelin, and not muddin.

Muddin is for folks that don't go wheelin.

And there is nothing wrong with finding a legal area, and gettin dirty and nasty and mud-stuck. Just not my thing.
