Had a buddy with one. Sweet trucks hard to find and I think more expensive. They had a 6.0 but it wasn't an LQ4 and I don't think an LQ9 either. Thought I read something about it being from GM's Holden Division.

Holden doesn't use or make any special engines

Negative red rider. Far as I know, it's the same LQ9 motor that was in the SS 2wd trucks, Denalis, and Escalades. They just called it a Vortec Max when they put it in a Non SS half ton. Marketing, my friend.

Re: Tow Rig Delimma

From what I've read and I'm looking for some more info now that they actually had an alluminum L76 instead of the LQ9. Cant remember where I came up with the Holden idea.

yall are talkin about 2 different year models of trucks.

pre 07 1500 6.0 "vortec max" trucks had the LQ9
07-09 1500 6.0 "vortec max" trucks had L76

There is also a 1500HD that only came in crew cab short bed, with the LQ4/4L80

I tried just copying and pasting the info for the L76 but my computer wouldn't let me so here's the whole site regarding multiple motors. Actually makes me think about just getting a LQ4 and keeping an eye out for a higher performance motor if I'm not happy with it and pulling the ole switcheroo. Hopefully wouln't be too hard and would be pretty unique.

Might go check this truck out tommorow. With a little more tint and some bigger tires I think it could be flashemifyougotem with my black camper top I have now.

Re: Tow Rig Delimma

Looks like the L76 debuted after the LQ9 was referred to as Vortec Max, in half tons. This article also mentions a "Holden L76 engine" so you may be on to something there. I'm not familiar with Holden. Also believe the 09 was the last year Vortec Max was available.

L76

The L76 is derived from the LS2. And like the LS2 it features an aluminum engine block. However, the L76 does feature Active fuel management (AFM). While the displacement on demand technology was disabled on Holdens, this feature is enabled on the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT and subsequently refitted in the 2009 model Holdens with AFM enabled, but only on models fitted with the 6L80 Automatic Transmission. The engine also meets Euro III emissions requirements. Output is 348 bhp (260 kW) at 5600 rpm and 376 lb·ft (510 N·m) at 4400 rpm for the Holden variant, and 361 bhp (269 kW) and 385 lb·ft (522 N·m) for the G8 GT.[11] The Vortec 6000 or new VortecMax version is based on the Holden L76 engine, and features variable cam phasing, along with Active Fuel Management. It can be considered the replacement for the Generation III LQ9 engine. It produces 367 hp (274 kW) at 5400 rpm and 375 lb·ft (508 N·m) at 4400 rpm. Production of the Vortec 6000 started in late 2006, and is only available with the new body style Silverado and Sierra. The final year for the option of the VortecMax engine was 2009 in the Silverado and Sierra. vin code (Y)

Not a bad deal. I traded a Z06 vette in on my truck, received boot of course. But I ended up having about $17,300 in my 2006 with 94k miles. Sounds high, but they book high! Market only sucks on them because everybody is afraid of the fuel economy.

I like tow mirrors on a 3/4 ton too! sets those trucks apart! Of course you could always add them later.

I want a Holden Commodore UTE for a tow rig...

Re: Tow Rig Delimma

You can usually jew em quite a bit on those fuel suckin trucks, because they've likely sat there a while and a lot of times the dealer just wants to at least break even or just make enough to call it a profit and be done with it.

I never even heard of Holden prior to about 30 minutes ago :****: but that thing is fugly as ****!

Holden is the company/subsidiary of GM that made most of the cool GM cars this century ( G8 GT, Caddy CTS-V, GTO, Caprice cop car, and the new SS )

These trucks have been disappearing like crazy this week. I think I've called on 6 trucks this week that have been sold that day or the day before. I really want a crew cab but there were a couple extended cab 8.1's I could've got that disappeared. Made me want to punch the dude that was working on my transmission, but he made it right, did it all for free and I just got it back this evening and have the next 3 days off to do some shopping. I even got on autotrader.com and expanded my search to a 400 mile radius in hopes of finding a crew cab 8.1.

Come to think of it, I know 3 people with 8.1 trucks, and none are crew cab...

Re: Tow Rig Delimma

Guy I graduated with had a black 2500hd with the 8.1L in it and it was Ext. Cab too! He daily drove it for YEARS! Don't see how he afforded it!

Re: Re: Tow Rig Delimma

Just test drove this 05 with 120k and really liked it. It's in beautiful shape and they want 21k for it. It has an intake but other than than that it seems completely stock. Worth it?

I'm thinking you may need to hold out? There was a nice one on here was right at 100,000 miles, 06 for 20k. I'm pretty sure there's a significant difference in the 05 and 06-07. Okay I have no idea but I do know the 06 and 07 are the favorite ones.. Man that's a clean truck. If you're totally opposite of me and have patients I would wait.. Get you an 06 or 07 be done.
. I went to Montgomery today to buy some tars from a good ole fella off here to pick up some Parts.. I reset the computer before I left.. Empty crawler trailer, and a axle I picked up for him in downtown Atlanta(lives in fla) This is when i was getting to Montgomery. My gas burner never got half of that!!
