Tow Rig Tech - a new Video series from Busted Knuckle

I'm pretty interested in the results you get from the injectors. I've got some problems with my 7.3 cold starting, even when its 75° out. I think it's due to some old lazy injectors.

We went ahead and did new glow plugs and under cover harnesses while doing the injectors. I finally got everything back together yesterday and the new chip installed and WOW.
It woke this truck up a ton! We might have done a few burnouts and WOT launches. Stay Tuned for the Videos!

Also Since this was such a dirty Job we had Tub o Towels help sponsor the video so if you guys are tired of dirtying up the sink and getting yelled out by the wife these are a good cheap alternative.

hopefully you can also post the cost of these upgrades.
I'm interested in what it would cost a normal person with no sponsorship to do the same upgrades.
I plan on keeping my 7.3 a long time and these upgrades are sure to be in my future.
thanks for the informational videos and letting us know the real world results you gain (or don't) from the changes.

What headlights are on your powerstroke?

05-07 lights I bought off ebay. You need conversion harnesses and either a new backing plate or trim the stock plastic one to fit. They are awesome.

Cool. Might have to look into that. They look good!

Awesome job on the video Matt! Thanks again for choosing us! Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thanks Zach! I need the PMRs swapped out for better ones! HA :****:

I am considering doing this to my truck also. Matt are you going to do anything to the fuel system to support the new injectors?

There are a few bandaids that you can do, I am researching the best solution right now.
There is the high pressure crossover for both the oil and fuel rail that is supposed to help.
Or do a aftermarket fuel system.

Install a fuel pressure gauge...
The stock fuel system is fine for these mild injectors... The gauge will prove it to you. Bonus it will tell you when it's time to change your filter. Save money and injectors by not guessing at when to change it.

I had a reg return system for a while... Took it off... Just more chit to fail, made absolutely no difference.
Fpx, hpx, IMHO also a waste of money.

Look into "hutch and harpoon" mod...

Basically drop the fuel tank and rework the pickup and vent tubes...

Eliminates air leak issues and increases fuel capacity a little.

I was looking at the complete fuel system from Irate Diesel, It has the regulated return and does away with the factory ford fuel system.

Yeah from what I have researched a Full fuel system is unnecessary for these mild injectors. I like the Riff Raff FRX and some other mods as a budget regulated return without adding and deleting a bunch of other stuff. It should help keep the number 8 injector from starving for fuel. That was the only one that was messed up when I took them out.

I plan on doing the hutch and harpoon mod in the tank as one of our next videos. (If you are having fuel issues start at the source)

Fuel pressure gauge is on the list and should be easy to install under the hood and a good place to start.

I have an autometer w electric senders... One before filter and one after.
I have it wired so it normally reads after but w the push of a button it shows before...
Makes for instant diagnosis of clogged filter or other issues...
It's pricey but peace of mind from the driver's seat is nice...

Btw when the filter starts getting clogged the pressure will start dropping on full throttle pulls first... Just back off the throttle till you come to a good place to change it.

The aftermarket full fuel systems all have what I consider a flaw...
You have to lay on your back to change filters.... Snow, mud, piss soaked pavement, etc and then fuel running down into your armpits.

Now if you're trailering your truck to the truck pulls and running extreme mods that would be a different story.

As for FPX, it really doesn't do anything for you... If you are set on it, consider the 'reg return' system that keeps the stock fuel bowl... It will actually remove air from the heads instead of just sharing that air between both heads.

As long as your fuel pressure is right none of the injectors starve for fuel... Doesn't happen...

If you keep air out of your fuel supply it won't be in the head...

Fuel at 60-70 psi compresses air bubble to almost nothing and they go thought the injectors...
If you have a problem with constant air in you fuel (mixing valve in tank or oring in quick connect) then it can cause issues but if it's just a matter of purging air after assembly then it isn't going to hurt a thing.

EDIT: whoops just reread your post... I missed where you said budget reg return...
I suggest that if you do go that route, keep the original stuff in the truck esp on long trips... Your local vato zone or stealership will be of no help if you have roadside issues w custom stuff...

I haven't seen a reg return that keeps the fuel bowl?

The Riff Raff Fpx has a metered return, there is so much controversy over whether they do anything or not just like the hpx. If only someone would test the setup and prove it right or wrong.

I built my own reg return and kept the fuel bowl... No difference... Went back...

I was thinking of riff raff's metered return deal... Still I wouldn't bother but at least it should be better than just a crossover line...

Wanna open another can of worms, talk about a CCV delete....

Lots of people are VERY passionate about that one... They think that crank case gasses and oil vapor are somehow bad to burn and better vented to atmosphere...

Hint I'm against that one too lol
