Trade a Yota for a CJ?

Don't take advice on a CJ from someone who "wheels" a stock XJ and thinks it's a Jeep:hi: GO YOTA!

You must be clarivoint or female.
You think my jeeps stock or you know everything from a picture of just the yoke and the stock 33" swampers?
You probly think its the one in my avaitor (wrong)
and your just one more person looking to make there self feel better about owning a toyota:flipoff::haha:

Do this instead, I have lived in Utah for the past year, and Jeep prices are way less down there. Here is just one example of what to expect. If you buy something, I would bring it into town in 1 month, when I go to pick some of my stuff up, I would charge a cheap fuel fee. Just a thought...

It's gotta be street legal. I don't have a tow rig or trailer, or the funds for one. Plus, I live with my parents, so any space my rigs take up is borrowed space, and my dad is less than stoked about the space I'm taking up with 2 vehicles as it is.

I've sat in flatfenders and 5's before, I know they aren't spacious but I'm not that tall and I've been comfortable in every one of them.

B-Rad, that just means you run that much more risk of that Sheriff that hides out down there seeing your lack of lights/flaps/plates. :flipoff:

As far as having to love it to DD it, I AM still young and stupid, and my commute doesn't involve the freeway.

I really like the CJs so I am biased towards them. But I would need to know more about the Jeep to offer any sort of informed opinion.

The 80s CJs came from the factory with pretty crappy gear ratios. 2.73s, 3.32s. With the 258, you'd be lucky to have something as deep as 3.54s from the factory.

The transmissions in the 80s CJs are not much to write home about, either. The SR4 has a bad reputation, the T4 is weak, and the T176 is marginally decent.

The Model 20 in the rear came with 2 piece axles and if not already upgraded, could use aftermarket 1 piece axles.

The steering on these things always needs help. Especially with larger tires. 1 piece steering box mounts and maybe a brace.

The Dana 30 front end in the 80s CJs used a weaker locking hub setup.

Then there are potential rust and frame cracking issues.

Point is, it could need a bit of help and $$$ to be a reasonably competent wheeler and daily driver. Just some things to look for and take into consideration.

And maybe some of this stuff has already been addressed. As I said, I would need to know more.

I daily drove a CJ-5 in my younger years and loved it. These days, while I love my CJ-8, it's not something I really want to drive to work on a daily basis any more.

The 258 is a good motor and if its the cj5 in eatonvill it doesnt look bad but remember just about everything has its week points. No matter what you end up with your gonna have to upgrade some things even toyotas. I have wheeled a wide veriety of rigs one of my faves beeing the cj5. They are a little small but you get used to that. Everything on a cj5 is pretty easy to upgrade and with 34 inch tires you can run that dana30 for a while before breaking. I like toyotas to but one thing ive noticed about jeeps is the weight distribution is a little better from the jeeps but the toyotas wheel base is a lot better. Basicly if your not real comfortable around the shop and dont have a lot of tools such as a welder grinder stuff like that i would stick to the toyota theirs alot less their to upgrade. you might look for a 4runner. If you end up trading i have a cj5 soft top you can have its in pretty good shape no holes let me know. I also have some half doors.

Obviously, it's had some stuff done, I would guees the current owner doesn't know much about it. I see a Shackle reversal, I would have had that in the ad, that's not the OEM bemper or tire carrier, it's got some lift, aftermarket rear shackles. Pretty hard to tell with the pics. For what you are willing to trade, I think it's a good deal. I would want to take someone knowledgeable, though.

Well, I took my truck out and beat on it a little again, I think the 'Yota's spot in my driveway is safe. Did a bunch of **** where I could see that that thing would have been on it's side that my truck walked with 2wd.
