Ultra4 - Tear Down in Tennessee (AOP, South Pittsburg, TN) East series

ohhhhhhhh... That's a great idea !

"we are pre-running, officer"

That's what we did last year on Thursday night in the juggy and Explorer after clearing it with Ultra4.

Took us 30-35ish minutes of drive time to do a lap. Took longer than that between me picking the wrong trail once, pulling over to let racers keep running at 1/2 speed, and the Explorer losing a brake line.

To put that in perspective, fastest 4400 lap was barely under 20 minutes.

I probably won't have the buggy there, but if I do, we're giving it a shot.

So how crowed is this event? Is there still camping?
Thinking about coming down for it. But we will be traveling from Michigan and don't want to show up and have no place to camp or wheel.

Last year was the largest turnout for racers since it was one of the only Ultra4 races in the country. There was a better turnout of spectators, than in years past, but not overcrowded like for the typical bouncer event. Trail wise, a decent amount of the park is open for riding during the races so it was not too bad to navigate the trails before or after the race.

As for camping, I am not sure if they have an rv hookups left, but there is plenty of field to park and setup camp in.

Sounds like we are going to make the trip. Are you able to go up and look at the ultra4 cars? Camping in the field is no problem. We are set up for that. Probably show up Friday morning and leave Sunday.

Sounds good and yes on getting up close and personal with the racers. Most of the race teams are very welcoming and friendly so you can talk with them, checkout the race cars, and their tow rigs/pit setup too.

Team Robby Bobby will be there #124 . Stop by and say hello.
Glad y'all will be racing this event and that makes 10 for 4400 class.

With less than 2 weeks before the green flag drops, the Ultra4 website (notoriously slow to update registered drivers) already hows 24 drivers entered.

Couple of days later and the Ultra4 website now shows 46 drivers registered between the various classes. I know of a couple of 4400 drivers that will be there, but not shown on registration list as of this post.

Also saw that @Pumpkin has been busy making new obstacles/rock piles for the racers to have to deal with.

How many racers do they normally have at this race?

The first year racing at AOP was in 2019. For that year the website shows 63 registered across all the classes and for 2020 it shows 71 registered across all the classes. I didn't look for Qualifying or Race results to actually show how many competed though, so those numbers are +/- a few here and there.

2020 was higher since it was one of only three Ultra4 races all year long, but I'd still expect this years turnout to be similar to prior years.

Planning to be there this weekend with a buddy whos bringing a mild XJ, I haven't been since new years eve 2017 with a one ton rig and 38's, and will be wheeling a new to me basically stock CJ7, locked w/winch & shitty dana 30 up front, 33's and puny stock shafts.
Do the numbers of the trails mean anything in addition to the green, blue, black or is it totally random? I didnt get to explore much of the park last time due to blowing up a transmission half way thru saturday.

Any particular green or blue trails yall would recommend that would be a decent challenge for mild rigs? Looks like a chance we will get some rain.
