According to this site, any type of tree of that size that would grow around here, would be sub 500 pounds, although, I don't think thats very accurate.
Tongs can be had for cheap.
You'd be surprised with what you can move with two people and one of these.
An I think the Rieter buggy would be completly badass with one of these.

I know a guy who has a 1-1/2 ton military trailer in his driveway and a plan to attach it to the rear of his buggy but I'm not sure how it would help move logs?

Fox 2" Air Shocks, 14" fronts, 16" rears. My current vehicle weight is 3480lbs wet and with gear.
They were re-oiled and recharged in November. Everything looked good. (thanks Sarg:hi
The 14" fronts have 250psi, 16" rears have 220psi
Up travel = 4"front, 6" rear
2 inch Fox Air bumps on the front......don't know the current PSI.
I would guess my weight is a 60/40 split, towards the the sprung weight.
Front to back weight is similar......60/40, towards the front.
Well the schrader valves used in those shocks are good to around 7,000 PSI, and not far about that the bodies will blow. I know you said the logs you will be towing around aren't that "big", but once you incorporate the stress of wheeling, and your winching mechanism and the log your shocks are going to be getting a work out.

Money. I think you are overthinking this thing. My boom contraption is a 2 pin deal, pull two pins, unhook the winch cable, and you have nothing but two brackets on your rig. I used the old shackle hangers that I was too lazy to cut off when outboarding. :redneck:

With a design like this, you could mount an 8k winch in the back and just weld a set of tabs front and rear to switch back and forth.
And , if you design another arm with the pivots above the winch, you could use it for trenching, to better set the logs.

And we just might go this route.......but there other things to consider than just lifting an object off the ground.
Really, any repetitive heavy lifting would be too much for my little poop-pipe chassis.
You really need to see my rig first hand to judge the best design.

Yes, I have had the weight of the front of a broken (Toyota:rb
vehicle on the rear of my buggy; on the shocks. It was surprisingly easy on them.......or atleast the ride height only suffered a 3 inch drop.I understand the concern........I have the same concern.......but I'm gonna try it anyway. And even if they blow.......no biggie......the day's not done till you CAN'T drive it.:011:

I really like the idea of a tow behind arch. This would be alot easier on your buggy and totally take your suspension out of the equation. Also would mean very little modification to your rig (add some type of hitch). Build a simple arch out of scrap and a spare axle (sure some are floating around) Mount a battery and a small winch to it and poof instant skidder.:awesomework:
