Not telling you what to do, but I would think about it. You have got to understand the people that own the rig are about the only ones your pictures or time is worth any thing to. If you don't sell what you have then your work is worthless no matter how good it is. Work with them and give them what they want. Out of the album you posted you don't hardly have ten pics of one buggy. I know you have plenty more but if they aren't worth posting on your site are they worth buyin????? It is a fine line and you have to understand that catering to a customer is key in success. I bust my ass to do anything a good customer wants.

Just think on it homie. You know I will help out any way I can.

WORD X2

I bet I spend $200+ with ya on pics you've got of me this season, I hope (once you can sell the Gray rock, and Hannibal pics).
And I want to support you and help you get started, but I think you need to have some flexibility and go a bit custom on what you sell. Give a guy some options.

If I were to do that i'd be the only photographer to do so. Not saying that would be a bad or good thing, just sayin'. That's why I didn't think about offering it that way at all.

Customer gets what customer wants, within reason. I would say you will get more business by letting them select between the albums. I doubt any one of the drivers could look through and find 10 fantastic shots in just one album, just not there. Be flexible, that is all we are saying. Always remember, a little bit of something is always better than a whole lot of nothing.

You have just learned what diversification is about. Do you know how many insurance agents there are in Mississippi that sell the exact same thing I do. I have to separate myself from them and do things a little different to grow my business. I would 100% do it if you are the only one doing it.

Ricky I work in a job where we try to sell services every day (IT services). If the customer wants us to do something for them with IT, we do it or go and hire a new person on staff that can do it. Photography is a service and you produce an end product which is pictures. If you don't try to win customers then you will have none. Your package deal seems like it is a poor choice as others have said since you barely have 10 pics of a single rig from a single event. Base your business off what can sell and what the customer wants, not what other's in the industry do. If you are taking pics to make money then you should accomidate those that want to spend it. If you are not trying to make money then I don't know why you are spending yours to take pictures that you make hard for others to buy?

2 more months P. Woodlee just called me an XRRA GR is in that issue. Larry Gibson sent him two issues. molaugh They're tight y'know. laughing1

After talking it over I'm going to step out of the box and go site-wide for the package deal on COMP PHOTOS ONLY. thumb.gif

You are still missing your market, you should more trail rigs than anything else. Also think about smaller package deals like 5 instead of 10, or maybe 3. Not everybody has $100 to throw down on pics at one time, but still want to feel like they are getting a "deal".

Comp guys will respect photo licenses. I'm not sure every Tom, ****, and Harry that I take a picture of on the trail will.

They are buying the originals right? I guess I don't see what you are worried about? Oh well, talking with you on the subject makes about as much sense as you paying CRAWL for the priveledge of stealing your pictures in a national spotlight. You are missing out on $ in the short term and long run. Guess you are OK with it.

Prints are the only thing I sell to the masses right now. I'm selling photo files to the comp guys to use on team websites, myspaces, or just showing thier friends.

If you don't have it already, get a signature!!

trust me, been ****ed on that before

OKAY.

I was thinking about this while at school today. So here's my idea. Kenny Blume paid On The Marq 75 bucks for everything they had of him once. Don't know if that's 10 or 20, but I'm better the latter because those fools take a bunch of pics. I'm not trying to down what they're doing but I'd like to think my stuff is better than OTM, I hope at least. With that said, DO YOU THINK THIS IS FAIR:

$20 per photo
OR
$100 for 10 photos on a CD
$10 ea. after 10 photos.

$10 is cheap, how much do you pay for a pic of yourself at Six Flags coming off the waterslide? And that's a print, you can't post a print on your website, or send it to all your friends.

I just straight up don't want to sell photo files to the general public, but I will. Not at the same price as comp guys though. No "package deal", but I will do $20 per photo file. Thoughts? Feedback? Rant?

OTM is an undercutting fag if you wanna know my opinion.

You deserve your piece but don't get greedy. It's a pretty damn hard market I'll have to think about what yer askin in your second post I will respond tho gimme a min thumb.gif

If I were you I'd talk to Chack Jock... yer bossman has his cell # or PM him on PBB... He knows his **** and I don't think he'd be skurr'd to share his pricing/copyright stance with you. He keeps his **** lock'd down tight so that when he does have that $5k photo he has his rights to it, not just gave that **** away for 10 or 20 bux.... He "rents" his photos basically...

Not that you will care, but my opinion is to just talk to the potential customers and see what THEY want. I am going to go out on a limb and say that maybe 40% of competitors have websites/myspace, maybe a little more or less. So I don't think a img file is doing much for most people. I know most trail riders could care less. I personally would like a package deal on some prints to hang in my shop, I think you will find many others that feel the same way. I think some of your "package" deals may be missing the mark for the most part. I think the majority of wheelers are pretty non-technical (computer) guys. I think most would prefer a print package that they can frame up and show off. I think 10 pics across your entire collection is a better step, but don't be afraid to listen to what the masses want and GIVE it to them. Makes everybody happy in the end.

I think that is a good balance, I dont think I'd sell files to Joe Blow either. If someone needs some thing different then do those as one off deals, come up with a balance. I agree $10 is cheap to start, but on volume, then $10 is fair. Please never compare your pics or value to Six Flags, we all know they are ripoffs, you are not.
