How is that any more street legal than a buggy?

Read my entire post for more understanding :fawkdancesmiley:

Boredom with the same ol stuff..desire to push your limits further every time you go out...theres tons of reasons why.

Thanks for making my point:fawkdancesmiley: There are only so many "hardcore" spots where a buggy type rig is "needed" do you really expect to see more legal areas pop up that need that kind of rig :eeek: sadly we are actualy going the other way and loosing such places much faster than we are getting new areas. Looking to the future I would say were going to come to a place that even the FS and other land managers are going to require being strret legal if for no other reasons than to cut down on overuse of the little we have left:booo:

Plenty of hardcore spots up here begging to be discovered.

Differant country but the same questions still apply "legal" I know Canadas just as strict on the enviro laws as the US is so how much of these new trails are built with permission from the govt. and how much is bootlegged :eeek:

na the trails are bootlegged but no ones enforcing anything
the sad part is the car burners do what they want too

Interesting point of view total BS of course but lets see. http://www.nw-wheelers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38120

Not total bs, I followed evergreen steve in his new buggy. I learned a buggy driven by a buggy newbie will do less damage than a toytoa or jeep with a comfortable seasoned driver. He drove up places most others were spinning or trying several trys.

Wake up Jim. You have rode in a buggy or two. They make **** look easy.

people sealing and torching cars on the forest service roads(car burners)

A rig needs a certain amount of weight to get traction. To light and all you get is a lot of wheelspin because you cant get any traction. Yes I have spent some time in buggys but not on typical trail type runs. I do watch a lot of the buggy type rigs have trouble on trails just for the reasons I mentioned. Now on snow and sand a light rig is the ticket theres no doubt. but for all around wheeling a rig between #3500 and #4000 is just right. The big tires on the buggy type rigs do give a advantage not only in the approach angle but also in the fact they allow the rig to flow over obstacles in the trail such as rootwads and rocks but a light rig on a muddy trail with any kind of incline is going to have a harder time than a slightly heavier rig thats able to put down some weight on its footprint. Its pretty basic physics (sp) and theres a reason why many buggy guys fill their tire to keep the rig on the ground (unsprung weight)

Jesus Christ Jim, You are a stubborn sum beotch who wont figure it out cause you wont give it a chance. We ARE going to loose it, So use it while its around.

You didn't ask that. You asked if you COULD BUILD A BUGGY FOR 5K. And the general answer is no.

Now if you asked COULD I BUILD A BUGGY FOR 5K ADDITIONAL, I HAVE X, Y, Z.... thats a different question.

Now you also needed/wanted to ask IF YOU WERE GOING TO TRY TO BUILD A BUGGY FOR, SAY 5K, AND YOU HAD THE MAJOR COMPONENTS (egine, tranny, axles), WHAT WOULD YOU DO.

Ask the right questions, get the right answers. Beat around the bush, then get all bent out of shape.

Also, while I agree that the engine, tranny and axles are a big portion, I don't think that for a full, from scratch tube buggy, they are even 1/2 the final cost. Unless you got lots of scrap laying around and like making all your brackets and such (which its just so easy and more cost effective to buy now).

Poop Pipe links, tractor heims, simple (home made) brackets, 1/4-elliptical spring packs, decent cage made at home, scab in a firewall (to get brakes, petals, steering wheel etc), sure, you could probably do it. To bring the sexy and not make it look like a back-yard scabbed together rig. Either a lot of time to make everything super nice, or more $$ for better raw components.
