What to do with my fuel system?

Holy **** dude I don't think I could get from the trailer to the trail on 6 gallons. No wonder it is heating up. My cell is 22. I wanted to be able to ride a whole weekend without refueling. So far so good.

Nick, I saw your question but Wizzo nailed it. We are basically running the same setup.

Seems like the group I wheel with is always going back to the trailers anyway, so I figured I could refuel often. But it was also a compromise at the time to fit a cell in the space I had. I knew at the time it wouldn't be enough for long rides but I wasn't sure where I was going with it so redoing the entire rear section to fit something bigger didn't seem worthwhile at the time. So far it has been enough to get me through a day of wheeling every time with some to spare when I refueled at the trailer, so it really hasn't even been an issue. Its just now that I have to redo some tube work anyway that I might as well go bigger.

Seems to work good, do either you or Chris have the part number or exterior dimension of your cells?

I am really tempted to use the stock Bronco tank in my buggy because it's new, and is setup for side fill/remote fill and would be easy to build a storage rack over... But it's ugly as hell and of course just single wall steel

I can get it for you Monday, it's on my invoice and I keep all that stuff at work.

No problem, definitely not in a hurry.

I looked at cells on summit in the 20-26 gallon range that are constructed like yalls, and from what I recall they are about the same exterior dimension as the 33 gallon Bronco tank :****:

I think you have confirmed my want to do propane on my buggy. its super simple compared to efi

yeah b/c efi is sooo hard to deal with....... seriously, pats problem may be self inflicted b/c of the size and type of fuel cell he is using currently, with the rad. fan blowing directly on it. on the other hand, I know of probably 3 guys that i ride with that had propane issues and ditch pane for efi. it goes both ways.

My issues are definitely self-inflicted, although I was just copying setups from Pirate. The debate here was weather it was easier to fix the self-inflicted wounds or just switch to propane and also what would be better in the long-run.

I've decided to make one more attempt with EFI. I'm going to either buy or make a much larger fuel cell and redo whatever tube work in the rear is necessary to properly redirect air from my fan. I'm also going to eliminate Walbro pickups as they are just a huge bottleneck, IMO.

I'm still not convinced that LPG isn't the better long-term option though. My gut instinct when I started the buggy was BBC with dual propane mixers. But I didn't want a 700 lbs engine and I bought into the LS / EFI hype last minute and splurged. Honestly, for what it cost to buy the LS2 and get it running I probably could have had double the power in a BBC. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

And yes, I forgot to snap a pic yesterday at the shop. :drinkers:

If a little hot air is causing all your problems why not get some of that stick on aluminum heat shield on your tank. If it can keep the exhaust heat from making it to your cab it should certainly keep the 200 deg air from heating your fuel..

That's my temporary solution until I have time to add a bigger tank and build an air tunnel.

Running propane for years here...only problem I have ever had is running out of propane. It either works or your empty.

Dude. I know that's a sarcastic question because you're a 'pane homer. There's reasons were not all running around with forklift tanks on the back of our buggies. You know them.

Cool, thanks,

Now, I'm a fuel cell 'tard.... So to get the bottom output on that cell, did you have to drill a hole and add a bulkhead fitting to the bottom?

yes, i drilled a pilot hole through both. then, pull the tank out, use a hole saw in the metal shell and enlarge the hole in the plastic tank and use a bulkhead on it.
