Why will my effing truck not crank?!?! 22r on pane

Update.

Not sure what type of vaporizers you guys are running to say rebuild kits are $20, they are definitely not that cheap for mine. My vaporizer is a generic brand model E, basically the same thing as an IMPCO model E. Rebuild kits are $80+ for it. Before I spend that much money on a rebuild kit. I'm probably going to haul it back down to Angryfab. He said he has a couple Model E's on the shelf I could try, so I may pull it down there, swap em out, and see if it does the same thing. If it does fine, then I know that'll be where my problem lies....then I'll order a rebuild kit for mine.

Have you tried a different mixer?

If George has a mixer, I'll get it and try it also, but he only mentioned having vaporizers at his shop. So I'm gonna borrow one of his vaporizers and swap it out with mine. That will either define or eliminate it as the problem. The if it doesn't fix or change anything, I'll move onto the mixer. A new diaphragm for the mixer is about $50+ and really that's the only thing that can be wrong in the mixer....there's not much else to a mixer, everything else is stationary in it besides the lean/rich butterfly.

I'm with you, I just don't believe it is pulling enough vacuum through the propane hose to suck it out of the vaporizer, so it's probably in the mixer. But as of now I only have a vaporizer available to swap out for troubleshooting purposes. Really don't want to buy any rebuild parts until I pinpoint exactly what it is that needs to be rebuilt.

I've got a carb I'll sell ya !!!

I'll take it for free if you pay shipping.

Nothing wrong with my carb! lol...just the mixer (possibly) and it can be rebuilt for $25 if it is the problem.

*edit, what you are calling the carb is the mixer...what I was calling the carb is the throttle body. It's dumb that **** has many different names....

Re:

Have you tried cleaning the mixer? A dirty mixer will cause all kinds of starting issues.

I am betting you have a vac leak/issue. The button on the vaporizer purges fuel past the diaphragm into the feed line to the mixer. This means you ate getting fuel there and it's not freezing up. The little port on the top/front is a vacuum reference designed to read atmospheric.

To clean the mixer, take the 4 small bolts or of the top and pull the cap off. There will be a spring under it with a diaphragm. Pull that out and you will likely see carbon and dirt around the outside and throughout the mixer. You will also see how the ports route inside it. There are 2 mixture screws on them. One is the screw with the spring on it coming out the side. The other is a half turn type under the fuel inlet port. The stainless one should control idle with the other controlling top end.

If the diaphragm in the mixer is dirty it will stick and will need more vacuum to move it causing less fuel to flow.

Re:

Also, once it's running at a steady rpm (high idle even), I would spray everything on the motor with carb cleaner or ether. Including the hoses and fittings and mixer to see if there is a crack or leak.

I've already had the mixer and throttlebody off and apart once....Didn't think it was dirty enough to clean, but I'm gonna take it apart tonight after work again and clean it inside and out. There is not a vacuum leak anywhere. If there is, it got past 2 sets of eyes, 1 set being far more mechanically inclined than myself, throughout 2 full nights of troubleshooting. If there is a vacuum issue, it's likely a mechanical vacuum issue....not a leak. Like the mixer diaphragm not functioning properly or something.

Hell my ole piston rings might be fried :flipoff1:

I was talking factory carb so you can atleast drive it to the rti ramp and around the access roads! :flipgotcha: booyang

Think I might just sell it and buy a Gayzr.... :flipoff1:

Not pulling mixer apart tonight, forgot I gotta go into work earlier tomorrow.

Just read this whole thread even though I know nothing about running pane. I hate issues like this where you can't figure out what the hell is wrong even though you've tried everything in the book! I'm having some bullshit go on like this with my boat right now. Hope you get it fixed bro!

I'd go ranger with a/c. Dry in the rain, cold in the heat, hot in the cold, and can get one with the 900 motor!

If it was me i'd buy some extra parts- mixer, vaporizer etc and start swapping them out, if it don't fix it then you've got spares that could save your ass down the road

I've actually been thinking about that. Not necassarrily entire parts, just rebuild kits for both mixer and vaporizer, then spray wd-40 on the old diaphragms (to preserve material) and throw em in a ziplock bag to keep in my truck for spares.

I hate spending money on **** before knowing 100% if it needs replacing or not....but sometimes, that's the name of the game I guess. Plus I'll have spares, like you mentioned.

:spin:

Sorry man. I was pricing the Model J rebuild kits. Same place I found the Model J kit for $18.75 has the Model E kit for $40. (Century Fuel, propaneparts.net)

Will check em out, thanks! One good thing about this, is I've become very familiar with how the propane setup works! I didn't really know **** about it before.

Re: Re: Why will my effing truck not crank?!?! 22r on pane

Took the vaporizer and mixer/throttle body apart AGAIN, further inspecting diaphragms and whatnot. This time I took every single screw, gasket, EVERYTHING apart and meticulously cleaned and inspected it all. There is no holes or leaks around the diaphragms. Sprayed the mixer all to hell with brake cleaner and wiped it down.

If I've got the air filter off the mixer, switch on to activate fuel supply solenoid, and hold down the button on the vaporizer, I can feel the cool propane coming through the mixer and out the air filter hole by cupping the hole completely. That's what's supposed to do, I know. Point is, I just can't see how there could be any issue with the vaporizer. It just seems to not be able to suck enough vacuum to pull the diaphragm down in the vaporizer, which causes the little valve to open, purging fuel into the mixer.

Back to the mixer, it also seems to be in perfect condition. I'm so aggravated. You'd think if there was a problem with either of the two components, you'd be able to spot the issue after careful examination.

Here's just a bunch of pics of **** took apart.

Guess I'm just gonna order rebuild kits for the vaporizer and mixer next week for shits and giggles and see what happens.
