• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

Wildman's TJ getting a face lift!!

I have to ask...

You are dropping all this coin on a bunch of parts that will be giving you horsepower, torque and a low crawl ratio, why do you want to handicap yourself by putting a D44 in the front?

Because only badasses like wildman and my self have the balls to run a "lesser" front end to show up you "big" boys :flipoff:

Yep don't need a D60 in the front. Now I might eat those words but I am willing to try first.

My opinion.

A 44 with alloy shafts and CTM joints will hold up easily to a V8, super low gears and tires up to 37 inch at 6 psi for 99% of the wheeling anybody could do.

I have seen it break. JPFREAK broke one just this way. But I'm also set up this way and ran hard for almost 5 years without any damage. Be aware that hubs are the weak link. That's why I run drive flanges.

But also, to not be a hypocrite, I'm building a 60 for my project rig.

I think he mentioned a CRD60, must be for the rear.
Hey Wildman, how about springin' for a blingin' trailer to replace that U-Haul.

A trailer is on the list of things but the Jeep needs to be running and driving before I get one.
And yes a CRD60 is going in the rear.

If you don't need a D60 in the front why do you have one in the rear?

Just trying to understand the logic in the thought process.

High Pinon diff in the rear is weaker than a low pinon. High Pinon in the front is stronger that a low. Understand the logic? Also because the rear in my experiance will take more of a beatting than the front will.

Well it has been a busy few days. Both axles are out and the old suspension parts are off. I have been working on both the new front & rear axles. The rear UCA monuts are off and the frame is marked and the area ground down to weld the brackets onto the frame. Instead of drilling out the holes for the sleeves I am going to weld the brackets on the frame.

Got to show off that STaK's Box. Removed the old seats, installed the new 175amp Alt, OBA brackets from Kilby & had to move the overflow bottle.

While my buddies were working on the OBA & Alt I was putting the finishing touches to the HP44.

Make sense if all you are talking about is R&P.

But the front u-joint, inner and outer axle will see the exact same load and torque that the rear will see when in 4 wheel drive.

I just figured you obvisouly have the cash right now so why not remove the weak link in your new rig and never think twice about it again.

Jobless,
Yes I have the funds right now but from all I have seen I feel the D44 will be strong enough. If it turns out it isn't then I'll get the 35 Spline ARB and go with D60 outers on my D44.

Well here is the latest build pictures. The front axle is ready to be installed and the rear is getting close.

The Nth Degree DIY bracket for the Stinger has been fun getting it to fit. Had to do come clearancing but it is done other than to repaint the bare metal.

Here is the Nth Degree brackets welded onto the frame. Please don't nit-pic the welds. Today was my first day using my new Licoln welder.

Here is the alt mounted back in place with the Kilby bracket. This as always with a Kilby product was top notch.
