Working on my 44 yesterday. I pulled out the pass inner shaft and found this. By looking at the twist it happened when I was going in reverse. Which is when I snapped the outer shaft. Both are Nitro shafts with Bobby's 300m ujoints.

If you already have a spare I would install the new one and keep that as a trail spare.
 
Keep taking the 44 apart. It will make it lighter to remove from the rig. Install D60, go ferwheelin.
 
looks like you have a spare now. I wouldnt trust it to last very long and of course if its (when its) going to break it will be in the very worst place at the very worst time.
 
Just be nice in reverse.

Its already preloaded for extra forward strength! Or just romp it really hard going forward a get it straightened out. :awesomework:

i noticed that on my warn chromo shafts the first time i took it apart after install like ten years ago. still running with 39.5 irocks and a V8......:redneck:

but yes the stressor is already there waiting to snap.
 
I say if you got the money....replace it. If not keep running it till it breaks. Want to get the bast bang for the buck right? Hell, it could last years down the road........

Well bad thing is I think I blew up my locker too. Diff is popping. :mad:
 
From my experience the inners are enough stronger than the outers that they can handle a little twist. My chromo inners are both twisted worse than that and I have broken 5 outers without breaking an inner.

Front 44 under a zuk thing with a 4 cylinder.
